ACCIDENT — Northern ended a 16-game losing streak against Western Maryland Athletic Conference (WestMAC) opponents, stunning No. 3 Allegany 58-57 on Wednesday.
With 40 seconds left, the Campers (7-9, 2-4 WestMAC) committed a turnover leading 57-55.
Trailing with 17 seconds to play, Jayden McNally hit a 3-pointer in the corner to put the Huskies in front.
Allegany then committed a turnover on its final possession.
The Huskies (8-7, 1-4 WestMAC) last won a WestMAC game on Jan. 21, 2023, against Mountain Ridge, winning 50-47.
Northern lost the last four conference games of the 2022-23 season, went 0-8 last year and started 0-4 in conference play this season.
McNally led Northern with 19 points, scoring 11 after halftime.
Luke Ross scored all 12 of his points in the second half while Caleb Hinebaugh also finished with 12 points.
The Campers’ Chris Manherz led all scorers with 24 points including 18 in the first half.
Landyn Ansel hit four 3-pointers for 12 points while Eli Imes also scored 12 points.
Allegany led 19-16 after one quarter, 37-25 at halftime and 45-43 heading to the fourth.
The Campers shot just 6 of 18 at the free-throw line while the Huskies were 9 of 15.
Allegany faces No. 1 Fort Hill in South Cumberland (7-6, 1-0 City League) on Friday at 7 p.m.
Northern hosts No. 2 Southern on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
