OAKLAND — No. 2 Northern swept Southern in its season opener on Tuesday, winning with scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-21.
“We did not play as clean as I would have liked,” Northern head coach Jamie Bailey said. “We are down an outside hitter due to Samara (Streets) rolling her ankle at practice, no excuses though. Our serve receive was stellar, but we had trouble finishing the rally.”
Marisa Perez finished with 23 assists and six aces for the Huskies (1-0).
Allahna Lacy recorded 12 kills and three blocks with an assist and a dig.
Newcomer Violet Taylor added six aces, six assists and five digs.
Southern’s statistics were not provided; however, Bailey praised the effort of Myah Watson.
“Myah absolutely killed it at the net, she is a beast,” Bailey said. “Putting down blocks and hits.”
Northern hosts Allegany (1-1) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Southern (3-4-1) heads to Keyser (3-1) on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
No. 4 Mtn. Ridge 3, Allegany 0
FROSTBURG — Mountain Ridge won its season opener via sweep, defeating Allegany on Tuesday with scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-23.
Kealana Pua’auli led the Miners (1-0) with 13 kills, adding nine points, eight digs, two aces and two assists.
Aubreigh Wilson finished with 21 assists, seven digs, three kills, two blocks and an ace.
Macy Barth recorded 19 digs, five points and two assists while Addi Skidmore added 10 points, four digs and three aces and Lainey Clark had seven kills.
Mykah Baker finished with eight assists and six digs for the Campers (1-1, 0-1 Western Maryland Athletic Conference).
Danica Knight contributed four digs, six kills, three blocks and an ace while Leilani Morgret added two kills and three blocks.
Alco swept the junior varsity game, winning 25-15 and 25-23.
Sadie Baker finished with four digs, six kills and two aces for the Campers.
Lydia Imes recorded eight digs and two aces while Addison Holliday added an assist with three digs, two kills, two aces and a block.
Kendall Miller finished with five points while Addyson Rice had three for the Miners.
Mountain Ridge heads to No. 5 Frankfort (2-3) on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
Salisbury Elk-Lick 3, Paw Paw 2
PAW PAW, W.Va. — Salisbury Elk-Lick won a five-set match over Paw Paw on Tuesday.
The Elks won with scores of 25-18, 17-25, 25-17, 25-27 and 15-12.
Taylor Short recorded a triple-double for Salisbury with 16 points, 15 kills and 11 digs.
Alivia Hummel finished with a double-double of 26 assists and 14 points while Ava Hummel added 18 kills.
Statistics for Paw Paw were not provided.
The Pirates won the junior high game 14-25, 25-20 and 25-14.
Both teams hit the road on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Salisbury is at Ferndale while Paw Paw travels to Moorefield.
