ACCIDENT — Northern won its first game in the Western Maryland Athletic Conference (WestMAC) season, defeating Mountain Ridge, 65-64, on Friday in the Igloo.
Abby Nelson scored 18 of a game-high 25 points in the first half for the Huskies (13-8, 1-7 WestMAC).
Allahna Lacy finished with 14 points while Veda Rebuck scored 13.
Kealana Pua’auli led the Miners (10-12, 3-5 WestMAC) with 19 points, hitting four triples.
Ainsley Hawkins (12), Taylor Lamberson (11) and Carolyn Hughes (10) also scored in double figures.
Northern led 17-13 after one, 37-33 at halftime and 51-49 through three.
Mountain Ridge’s junior varsity won 47-22 led by Marissa Ziler’s 10 points while Ryaa Brenneman paced Northern with 10.
The Huskies end the regular season at Hancock on Monday.
No. 3 Petersburg 66, Pendleton Co. 33
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Miley Tingler, Karlie DiBenedetto, Ayden Mayfield and Shyane Tawney recorded double figures in No. 3 Petersburg’s romp of Pendleton County on Saturday.
Petersburg (14-6), which has won seven games in a row, led 14-4 after the first quarter, 37-16 at the intermission and 50-26 entering the fourth period.
Tingler notched a team-high 15 points, DiBenedetto added 13, Mayfield scored 12 and Tawney finished with 11.
Petersburg made eight 3-pointers, led by Mayfield’s four and DiBenedetto’s three.
Pendleton County’s Susan Vincell led all scorers with 17 points.
Petersburg welcomes Spring Mills on Tuesday night.
