HANCOCK — No. 5 Northern earned its first win of the season, and it came in comeback fashion with a 6-5 victory at Hancock on Wednesday.
Trailing 5-4 in the sixth inning, Jacob Chambers singled to left to get within a run.
In the top of the seventh, Northern had two runners on with one gone.
Elliott Meyers-Shirer stole second before Emmitt Lipscomb scored on an error at shortstop.
Meyers-Shirer scored on a groundout later in the at-bat to put the Huskies (1-2) in front.
Northern scored a run in the first, second and fourth innings.
The Panthers (0-3) scored twice in the third and three times in the fifth.
Landon Yoder and Hunter Livengood each recorded a pair of hits for the Huskies.
Chambers earned the win in 2 1/3 shutout innings of relief, allowing two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Northern is at Albert Gallatin, Pennsylvania, on Friday at 4 p.m.
Berkeley Springs 16, Mountain Ridge 15
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Mountain Ridge led Berkeley Springs 14-9 after five innings and 15-11 in the seventh.
The Indians (1-4) rallied all the way back, scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh to stun the Miners, 16-15, on Wednesday.
In the bottom of the seventh, five consecutive batters reached base.
Berkeley Springs had four hits in a row, all singles, with three driving in runs.
With one out and a runner on third, the Miners (0-4) intentionally walked the next two batters to load the bases.
On the following pitch, Matthew Slifer walked it off on an RBI single to short.
Mountain Ridge scored five runs in the first and fifth innings and combined for 13 hits.
John Delaney (Delaware commit) and Dan VanSlyke each went 3 for 4 with Delaney driving in four RBIs.
Mountain Ridge’s pitchers combined to allow 15 hits, eight walks and 12 earned runs against seven strikeouts.
Caiden Groves earned the win in 5 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits and five walks with seven punch outs.
Kyle Moore, Shawn McCumbee and Slifer each had three hits.
The Miners head to Hancock on Thursday before hosting Northern on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Hedgesville 7, Hampshire 6
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — After Hampshire evened the score at 6 in the top of the seventh, Hedgesville walked it off in the bottom half to win on Wednesday.
The Trojans (2-2) trailed 6-4 after six innings and had two outs in the top of the seventh.
Wyatt Adams stepped in and singled to left, scoring two runs to tie the game.
Adams finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs.
In the bottom of the seventh, a passed ball walked it off for the Eagles (3-2).
Hedgesville led 6-2 through five innings before Hampshire scored two in the sixth and seventh frames.
Mark Richman took the loss in four innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Hedgesville’s Bryan French went five frames, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk with seven punch outs.
The Trojans are at Keyser (1-2) on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Musselman 11, Moorefield 4
INWOOD, W.Va. — Musselman out-hit Moorefield 11-2 and had eight of its 11 batters record at least one hit in Wednesday’s win.
Wyatt Zimmerman, Ethan Hinchman and Kamdyn Woolum each had a pair of hits for the Applemen (1-3).
The Applemen scored five runs in the third, two in the sixth and four in the seventh, and Musselman scored five runs off of six errors from the Yellow Jackets (1-2).
Moorefield’s pitchers only walked one batter, but combined to allow 11 hits and six earned runs.
Thomas Simmons and Trevor Baldwin recorded the Jackets’ two hits.
Moorefield is at Tucker County on Thursday, followed by Lancaster Valley on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
