MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — No. 1 Northern swept its fifth straight opponent, winning 27-25, 25-16 and 25-12 at Trinity Christian on Friday.
“We gift wrapped several points for our gracious hosts,” Northern head coach Jamie Bailey said. “Over six missed serves and more hitting errors in the first set. Trinity’s defense was on fire. Once my hitters turned on, they still had trouble finding the hardwood. We just had to out-last them for every point.”
Violet Taylor finished with 16 digs, two aces and two assists for the Huskies (5-0).
Samara Streets recorded seven kills, three aces and two digs.
Marisa Perez posted 18 assists and 5 digs while Allahna Lacy had two aces, five kills and two blocks.
The Huskies won the junior varsity game 25-13 and 25-8.
Mazzy Morel had six aces and seven assists while Lillian Lawson had six aces and two digs.
Northern hosts Allegany (3-2) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
No. 1 Fort Hill 3, Mountain Ridge 2
CUMBERLAND — No. 1 Fort Hill bounced back from Monday’s loss to Northern with a five-set win over Mountain Ridge on Thursday.
The Sentinels (3-2, 2-1 Western Maryland Athletic Conference) won with scores of 18-25, 25-17, 25-23, 22-25 and 15-13.
“We battled all night long,” Fort Hill head coach Jordan Fradiska said. “The first set we didn’t play well at all. We cleaned things up and came out on top. We’re battling injuries right now with three key players out and my team pulled together and came out on top with a big win.”
Haley Metz, Summer Welsh and Tatum Bishop recorded double-doubles for Fort Hill.
Metz finished with 32 digs and 17 points, Welsh posted 34 assists and 23 points and Bishop recorded 14 digs and 11 kills.
Addison Furstenberg had 15 kills while Ella Bennett added nine kills.
Kealana Pua’auli recorded a triple-double for the Miners (3-2, 2-0 WestMAC).
Pua’auli finished with 24 kills, 18 digs, 13 points and two assists.
Aubreigh Wilson was one dig shy of a triple-double, finishing with 17 points, 17 assists, nine digs, six aces and three kills.
Macy Barth contributed 25 digs, seven points, three assists and two aces.
Kayden Wilson added 20 assists, eight digs, a kill and a point.
Fort Hill won the junior varsity game in three sets.
Scores and statistics for the Sentinels were not provided for the JV game.
Kendall Miller and Lizzie Everly each recorded four points for Mountain Ridge (2-2).
Both teams return to action on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Sentinels are at No. 5 Southern (4-5-1, 0-3 WestMAC) while the Miners host No. 1 Northern (4-0, 3-0 WestMAC).
Allegany 3, Messiah 0
CUMBERLAND — Allegany earned its first sweep of the season, defeating Messiah Christian on Thursday 25-11, 25-6 and 25-14.
Claire Buskirk led the Campers (3-2) with 14 digs, adding six aces and a kill.
Hailee Isom recorded 12 assists with two digs and two aces while Chelsea Martinez added six aces, six kills and three digs.
Messiah’s Jenna Bender finished with 10 digs, six kills, four points and two aces, Kaitlyn Bender garnered five kills, an ace, six points, 16 kills and a block, Kaimee Harrison added six assists and three points, Danika Morrison tallied seven assists, four points and three digs, and Kenzie Kazazic finished with three digs.
“Serve receive and our attack defense suffered at Allegany Thursday night,” Messiah head coach John Wall said. “Allegany did a great job keeping the ball in system and mounting an effective attack consistently throughout the match. We just could not stop their offense enough to control the tempo of the game.
“We knew this was going to be a tough match for our younger and smaller team, but you have to play good teams to be good.”
Messiah heads to Frederick Christian on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Allegany is at Bishop Walsh (2-8) on Monday at 6 p.m.
Salisbury-Elk Lick 3, Turkeyfoot 0
SALISBURY, Pa. — Salisbury-Elk Lick swept Turkeyfoot Valley on Thursday, winning 25-12, 25-15 and 25-19.
Sarah Hutzel led the Elks with 12 points, adding five aces and five kills.
Ava Hummel finished with 10 points and four aces, Taylor Short added nine kills and Alivia Hummel had 14 assists.
Salisbury won the junior high game 28-26 and 25-12.
The Elks host Windber on Monday at 7 p.m.
Salisbury’s next game is Monday at home vs Windber.
