The Harbormaster’s Office and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection investigated what appeared to be an oil slick in the Inner Harbor on Monday morning, according to a post on the city’s Facebook page.
Photos shared to social media showed what appears to be an oily sheen on the surface of the water around Harbor Loop, including at the docks by the Harbormaster’s Office at 19 Harbor Loop.
The DEP and the Harbormaster’s Office investigated the entire harbor and the state agency confirmed there were no issues or identified sources. By mid-morning, the sheen had dissipated and no further action was required, the post indicates.
Earlier Monday morning, the Harbormaster’s Office had taken to social media to say it had detected the oil slick and the DEP’s Oil Response Team was on its way to address the situation.
Harbormaster Chris Lucido said the slick was spotted around his office and could be seen all the way to the Jodrey State Fish Pier on Parker Street. He told the Times mid-morning the DEP team came out, looked around the harbor, and did not find a source.
The sheen was dissipating and not recoverable with oil absorbent booms, he said.
