OAKLAND — Jared Haskiell and Brayden Upole combined for 44 points, as second-ranked Southern cruised to a 77-62 victory over Allegany on Friday.
The Rams (7-2, 3-0 Western Maryland Athletic Conference) upped their winning streak to six games following a 1-2 start. Haskiell paced the squad with 23 points, and Upole added 21.
Southern went 19 for 23 at the free-throw line. Upole was 7 for 8, Jacob Brown made all four of his attempts and finished with nine points, and Haskiell was 4 for 5 at the stripe. Ryan Bird added eight points.
Southern led 20-15 after the first quarter, 38-22 at the half and 58-39 going into the fourth.
Allegany guard Chris Manherz led all scorers with 27 points, and Eli Imes chipped in 11.
The Campers (2-7, 1-2 WestMAC) finished just 10 for 19 at the free-throw line.
Southern is at Brunswick on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and Allegany hosts Berlin Brothersvalley on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The Rams and Campers are slated for a rematch on Friday in Cumberland.
Mtn. Ridge 91, Northern 57
ACCIDENT — Six different Miners scored at least nine points in a one-sided Mountain Ridge rout of Northern on Friday.
Mountain Ridge (2-6, 1-1 WestMAC) has scored at least 86 points in back-to-back games, reaching the threshold in a 73-point win over Bishop Walsh last Friday.
Four Miners were in double figures: Ian Duncan (23), Owen McGeady (16), Cameron Breighner (14) and Eli Sibley (12). Brady Moran and Kris Washington garnered nine points each.
Mountain Ridge sunk 10 3-pointers. Duncan and Moran hit three, and McGeady found two treys.
Northern (5-5, 0-3 WestMAC) had 10 different players score, led by Jayden McNally and Cole Glotfelty with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Mountain Ridge led 22-16, 47-31 and 71-45 following the first three quarters.
The Miners are at No. 3 Keyser (2-4) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Northern is at No. 4 Fort Hill (3-5) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Moorefield 45, Petersburg 36
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Behind a game-high 20 points from Guyan Kahangirwe, Moorefield ended a three-game skid on Friday with a win over Petersburg.
Kahangirwe scored seven points in the second quarter and had 11 at halftime for the Yellow Jackets (4-5).
Cyrus Kump added 12 points for Moorefield.
Caden Ours led the Vikings (4-3) with 11 points while Trace Rohrbaugh added 10.
The game was tied at eight after one quarter, then the Jackets led 21-15 at halftime and 32-20 after three quarters.
Moorefield hosts Liberty Harrison on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
Petersburg plays No. 1 Hampshire (5-3) at home on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
No. 5 East Hardy 73, Pendleton County 41
BAKER, W.Va. — Jordan Teets scored 16 of his game-high 26 points after halftime, leading No. 5 East Hardy to a win over Pendleton County on Friday.
The Cougars (6-4) scored 16 points in the third quarter, 11 from Teets.
He finished the day with five 3-pointers.
Evan Hamilton finished with 17 points including four triples while Gideon Good scored 15 points.
Chase Owens led the Wildcats with 11 points.
East Hardy hosts Tygarts Valley on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
