INWOOD, W.Va. — No. 2 Keyser won a pair of one-run ballgames, defeating Musselman, 5-4, then completing the sweep with an eight-inning 7-6 victory on Saturday.
The Golden Tornado (5-1), winners of four straight, took the lead in Game 2 on a sacrifice fly by Mady McIntyre in the top of the eighth inning.
Leighton Johnson retired Musselman in order in the bottom half of the frame to secure the twinbill sweep.
Brielle Root led the Keyser bats going 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs, and Kailynn Burns finished 3 for 5 with a double. Johnson doubled and singled, and Bibs Felton tripled.
Sophie Lambka pitched well enough in regulation to earn the win, but Musselman tagged the reliever Johnson for a run in the seventh to force extras.
Lambka allowed five runs (one earned) on seven hits in six innings, striking out six and walking two.
Musselman’s Kayleigh Parsons was dealt the loss in relief. Avery Bennett had two RBIs.
Johnson tossed a complete-game gem in the first game to start of the day with a Golden Tornado win. The right-hander allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits, fanning seven and walking three in the seven-inning effort.
Felton went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Lambka had three hits, Burns drove in two and McIntyre doubled.
Camryn Mallow doubled for Musselman and drove in two runs. Allison Hoffman took the loss in the circle.
Keyser hosts Hampshire (0-2) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Frankfort moves to 6-1
FRANKLIN, W.Va. — Frankfort bounced back from its first defeat of the season with a pair of one-sided victories Saturday.
The Falcons (6-1) kicked off the day with a 14-5 rout of Trinity Christian in six innings before crushing Pendleton County, 17-2, in five frames. Both games were played at Pendleton.
Against Trinity, Frankfort pushed across six runs in the sixth to force a mercy rule. Raygan Grogg clubbed a two-RBI triple to reach the threshold in walk-off fashion.
Jocolyn Hurley was 2 for 4 with four RBIs, and Kaitlyn Hudson and Dayahna Imes had two singles each.
Peyton Kimble recorded the win in the circle, allowing a run on three hits in four innings. She struck out 11 and walked one.
Trinity’s Peyton Moore was 2 for 4 with a two-run home run and four RBIs, and Josalyn Phillips and Paige Hopkins doubled.
Kyra White was the losing pitcher.
Against Pendleton, Frankfort scored six runs in the first inning and five in the second to grab control and lead throughout.
Frankfort’s Jordan-Marie Owens tripled twice, Riley Lynch tripled, doubled and had four RBIs, and Addyson Merritt tripled.
Kimble went all five innings to pitch up the victory in the circle, surrendering two unearned runs on five hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks.
Pendleton’s Chesnee Colaw was tabbed with the loss.
Frankfort is at Berkeley Springs on Monday at 6 p.m.
