OAKLAND — No. 2 Allegany scored twice after halftime to defeat No. 3 Southern, 2-0, Saturday at Greenway Avenue Stadium.
The win was Allegany’s eighth straight and improved the Campers to 8-0-1 overall and 4-0 in the Western Maryland Athletic Conference. Alco has shut out all nine of its opponents, outscoring them 42-0.
Southern fell to 3-2-1 overall and 2-2 in the WestMAC.
“Glad to squeak out a victory on the road against a tough opponent,” Allegany head coach Andy Farrell said. “Southern is coached well and has a great group of players, many of which are young. They are going to be a threat in every game they play for many years to come.”
Ella Shade, a PennWest California commit who missed the Campers’ prior three games with an ankle injury, scored both goals.
The first came off an assist from Madalyn Bucy in the 53rd minute, and Shade scored unassisted with three minutes left to play.
Allegany had a 29-12 edge in shots and 18-6 margin in shots on goal. Neither team took a corner kick.
Southern’s Abi Teets made 16 saves, and Allegany’s Brilynn Beatty had six stops for the cleansheet.
Allegany faces No. 5 Fort Hill (4-4, 0-3 WestMAC) on Thursday at 5 p.m. in Homecoming.
“We just finished our stretch of four games in seven days,” Farrell said. “I believe the girls’ bodies are exhausted and in need of some recovery, and it needs to happen quick because we face off against Fort Hill next week on Homecoming.”
Southern hosts Mountain Ridge (7-1, 3-1 WestMAC) on Monday at 6 p.m.
