CUMBERLAND — No. 2 Allegany cruised past Bishop Walsh, 6-0, Saturday at Rowan Field to earn a share of the city title.
Allegany and Fort Hill share the Cumberland City League championship with matching 3-1 marks, splitting their regular-season meetings.
The Campers (10-2-2) led 4-0 at the half, scoring off unassisted goals by Lincoln Isom (29:00) and Noah Simmons (30:01), a goal by Simmons assisted by Jack Taylor (11:15) and a score via Ryan Mitchell from a Simmons assist (18:58).
Simmons recorded his hat trick unassisted with 23:18 to play, and Sam Panetta closed the scoring, assisted by Colton McDonald, with 3:30 remaining.
Allegany out-shot Bishop Walsh, 21-8, and had a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. The Campers used two keepers, and Eston Powell made three saves and Eoin Mowbray one. Spartan goalie James Maybury had two stops.
Allegany is the No. 2 seed in the Class 1A West Region I playoffs and will host Clear Spring on Friday or Saturday in the semifinals.
Bishop Walsh (8-11-2) is at Chestnut Ridge on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Southern 2, Clear Spring 1
OAKLAND — A pair of Shane Sisler penalty kicks lifted Southern to an upset of Clear Spring on Saturday.
Clear Spring is slotted into the No. 3 spot in the Class 1A West Region I playoffs and defeated Mountain Ridge, 4-1, on Sept. 13, but the Rams scored a pair of second-half goals to topple the Blazers.
After a scoreless first half, Sisler scored his PKs in the 60th and 68th minutes for a 2-0 lead.
Clear Spring’s Roshane Hines answered with an unassisted goal two minutes later, but Rams keeper Brady Spotts, who ended with six saves, kept the Blazers off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Clear Spring led in shots, 8-2, and the Rams had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Southern will face Mountain Ridge in the region quarterfinals on Wednesday.
