ACCIDENT — Top-seeded Northern swept fifth-seeded Southern, 25-20, 26-24, 25-11, Friday to advance to the Class 1A West Region I championship.
The Huskies (16-0) will host No. 2 Clear Spring on Wednesday night looking to avenge a 3-2 loss to the Blazers in the region semis last year.
Clear Spring swept No. 3 Fort Hill Friday to give the Sentinels an 11-6 finish.
The Blazers have been to the 1A state championship the last three seasons, falling in the finals last year to Boonsboro after back-to-back titles.
Demi Ross and Allahna Lacy had 13 kills each for Northern Friday, and Samara Streets and Charli Krause had seven apiece. Ross added eight aces, and Marisa Perez tallied 30 assists and three aces.
Northern struggled with its serve early, missing nine serves during the first two sets.
Northern head coach Jamie Bailey raved about Southern’s Myah Watson, stating she “was just fantastic tonight. Hitting above my blockers and blocking my girls.”
