LOCKPORT — A Falls woman, with a lengthy rap sheet, has been sentenced to 6 1/2 to 8 years in state prison for a double shooting outside a 19th Street convenience store.
New York State Supreme Court Justice Mario Giacobbe handed down the sentence to Jazzie Capri Bennett, 31, for her guilty plea to a pair of felonies. Giacobbe imposed a 5-year prison term for Bennett’s plea to a charge of second-degree assault and a 1.5- to 3-year term for her plea to a count of attempted second-degree assault.
The judge ordered the sentences to run consecutively.
The double shooting occurred around 7:15 p.m. Sept. 8, 2025, outside a convenience store and gas station at 19th Street and Walnut Avenue. Falls police have regularly identified the location as a gun violence hotspot.
At her plea hearing in June, Bennett admitted that she had assaulted two men using “an instrument.” She gave no reason for shooting the victims.
The first Falls Police officers to arrive at the crime scene reported they found a male victim with a gunshot wound to one of his legs. That victim was treated by Falls firefighters and paramedics from an AMR ambulance before being transported to the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.
The second victim was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center in a private vehicle. He was treated for a wound to his buttocks and was later transferred to ECMC for further treatment.
Niagara County prosecutors described both men’s wounds as “significant”, but said they are now recovering.
At the time of the shooting, prosecutors said Bennett was on parole for a drug conviction that had occurred just months earlier.
In April 2012, Bennett, who was then 17 and living in Buffalo, was charged with second-degree assault in connection with a stabbing that took place outside a North End convenience store. Falls police said at the time that they were called to the 1500 block of Pierce Avenue for a report of a person stabbed.
Officers said as they arrived on the scene, they were flagged down by a man and found an 18-year-old female victim on a porch holding “a blood-soaked shirt” to her neck. The victim was rushed to NFMMC, where doctors determined she had suffered a superficial laceration to her face, a much deeper cut to her neck and a cut on her chest.
Her condition was stabilized at Memorial Medical Center and she was then transferred to the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.
Investigators said Bennett and the victim were acquainted with each other.
Much of the incident was captured on video by a surveillance camera mounted on the convenience store. That video was later posted on YouTube.
