North Tonawanda police arrested a 17-year-old on weapons charges Tuesday while assisting Niagara Falls detectives with an investigation.
The teen was taken into custody following a search of their 7th Avenue home. After the residence was secured by members of the Tonawanda-North Tonawanda SWAT Team, North Tonawanda police detectives found a loaded handgun and loaded extended magazine in the teen’s bedroom.
NT police noted that the teen was the subject of the Falls investigation.
The 17-year-old was charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (Class C and D felonies).
The teen was arraigned in Niagara County Family Court Youth Part, where he was remanded to the Erie County Juvenile Detention Center with a $10,000 bond.
Due to his age, North Tonawanda police are not releasing the teen’s name bu they did note that the teen does not currently attend North Tonawanda schools.
