The Niagara County website moved to the “.gov” domain effective Monday. The county’s website is now www.niagaracounty.gov.
Those who go to the old site, www.niagaracounty.com, will automatically be redirected to the new site.
The federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has urged government bodies to make the change, according to county legislature chair Becky Wydysh.
“The fact is anyone, anywhere in the world can set up a website with a ‘.com’ or ‘.org’ domain and use a name that can confuse people into thinking it is an official government site. CISA manages ‘.gov’ and runs a vetting process to ensure only legitimate government entities are allowed to use the domain,” Wydysh said.
