The Niagara County Farm Bureau recently held its annual holiday gathering with the highlight of the event being the presentation of the annual Legislative Award.
Sen. Rob Ortt, Assemblyman Mike Norris and Assemblyman Angelo Morinello were named to the distinguished list. The award is an indication of a lawmaker’s support for New York state agriculture and Farm Bureau.
The Niagara County Farm Bureau Legislative Award is based upon each legislator’s voting record on issues of agricultural importance as well as other evidence of legislative support, including sponsorship of bills that the New York Farm Bureau has either supported or opposed during the most recent legislative session.
“We would like to thank Senator Ortt, Assemblyman Norris and Assemblyman Morinello who value a strong farm community and supported agriculture during this year’s legislative session. It is imperative that we have strong agricultural budget funding and legislation that expands opportunities for New York farm families. These will not only support local food production but also our local economy,” said Kevin Bittner, president of Niagara County Farm Bureau.
The award is not an endorsement, and this distinction only recognizes the 2023 legislative session.
In addition, the group selected “The Barn at Night” to read to students during March, Ag in the Classroom Month. Members of Niagara County Farm Bureau visit classrooms, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, and homeschooling organizations to read this book. They then answer questions and do an activity based on it. The Niagara County Farm Bureau is a grassroots organization that supports farmers through lobbying and educational programs. Membership is open to all involved in agriculture, from those who grow our food, nurture ornamental crops and enjoy the end product.
