One day after falling to Fairfield, Niagara had its back against the wall in a win-or-go-home game against Marist, and they delivered.
Niagara took down Marist 6-2 in the first game of the losers’ out bracket at the MAAC Tournament on Friday.
After going down 1-0 in the top of the first, the Purple Eagles responded with two in the bottom of the second and never looked back behind 7 2/3 innings of six-strikeout pitching from Nate Bennett.
The win means that Niagara is playing Fairfield once again, with the games starting at 7 p.m. The winner of that game will head to the MAAC Championship Game, Saturday, at noon against Rider.
Niagara’s season ends with loss to Fairfield:
A season that once seemed destined to be a special one has reached an ignominious conclusion with Niagara losing to Fairfield 9-2 in the second loser’s out game of the day.
Niagara now finishes the season with a 27-21-1 overall record. Their 27 wins are the most in a season since 2024 when the team won 38 games.
After sitting in first place on May 3, Niagara stumbled down the stretch losing five out of their last 10 games.
In this loss to Fairfield, Niagara could not overcome the middle two frames when they gave up a combined 5 runs.
