AMESBURY — The Newburyport Photography Interest Group, a long-standing collective of local photographers, is set to display its annual exhibition at The Gallery @ Trades Mill, 16 Chestnut St., Amesbury, from Nov. 7 to Jan. 2, 2026. This vibrant showcase celebrates the breadth of artistic perspectives that have defined the group since its founding in 2000.
A reception will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the gallery.
Formed as an interest group within the Newburyport Art Association (NAA), the collective began meeting in downtown Newburyport and transitioned to virtual gatherings during the pandemic. Today, the group maintains a hybrid model, connecting photographers from across Essex County through lectures, photo critiques, and seasonal photo shoots.
With a membership of about 170 artists, the group represents a diverse blend of backgrounds—including technology, education, sales, engineering, healthcare, banking, and law. Many members balance their artistic passions with day jobs or retirement, finding creative fulfillment behind the lens. Despite their differences, members share a commitment to learning, exploration, and support. As one member noted, “We accept artists of all levels—we support and encourage each other, and we don’t even collect dues.”
This year’s exhibition is theme-free, a deliberate choice to allow each photographer’s voice to shine. Visitors can expect a striking range of digital photography printed on varied media, reflecting both individual expression and collective artistry. “It’s an appreciation of the talent and the diversity of our subjects and approaches,” the group shared.
The Newburyport Photography Interest Group has a strong presence throughout the North Shore, with members exhibiting regularly at art associations in Beverly, Gloucester, Rockport, and Marblehead, as well as in personal shows across Eastern Massachusetts.
Founded in 2000 and affiliated with the Newburyport Art Association, the Newburyport Photography Interest Group fosters community, learning, and artistic growth among photographers of all levels. The group meets twice monthly for educational lectures and critique sessions and holds annual exhibitions in Newburyport and Amesbury.
