BOSTON — National Braille Press (NBP) has announced that Elizabeth Winking of Newburyport, M.A. is one of six runners in its team to participate in the 129th Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America. Winking and other runners are raising money to support braille literacy.
NBP is also a part of the Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program, and received five bibs for the 2025 Boston Marathon.
The runners are supporting NBP’s mission to provide braille materials to blind and visually impaired children and adults. A book in braille costs three times more to produce than a book in print does. The funds that are raised through the Boston Marathon team help maintain access and equality to braille materials for the blind and visually impaired.
The 2025 National Braille Press Boston Marathon runners are: Elizabeth Winking, Newburyport, M.A.; Jackson Cavallerano, Boston, M.A.; Kelsey Farraher, Westford, M.A.; Michelle Holleb, Boulder, C.O.; Vanessa Lugo, Doral, F.L.; Kyle Coffey, Mobile, A.L. (Qualified Runner).
Winking started running in college to reduce stress and spend time outdoors, but since then, running has become more about community for her. She is part of a mom’s running group in Newburyport, where she has met an amazing group of women through running and looks forward to her early morning runs because of them. The running community brings people together and has had a positive impact on her life. As a former elementary educator, she is thrilled to be running for NBP.
Elizabeth believes, “Books open up a whole new world and everyone should have the ability and access to read books.”
