PORT HENRY — Megan DuShane foresees great things ahead for the Moriah Chamber of Commerce.
As the newly hired executive coordinator for the chamber, she brings a background in business and financial administration to the 73-member organization.
She comes to the chamber after a stint as human resources coordinator at Middlebury College, and before that was an administrator for Hudson Headwaters Health Network of Warrensburg.
“I’m interested in supporting rural communities,” she said. “I wanted to get to know people, to get to know the area better so I could support others.”
DuShane graduated from Ticonderoga High School and Clinton Community College, and lives in Crown Point, now, with her husband and three adolescent children.
“I needed a job with flexible hours,” she said. “The Moriah chamber offered me that opportunity. I’m excited about what’s ahead.”
What’s ahead are new programs and events from the Moriah Chamber of Commerce, in addition to the annual Champ Day celebration and Labor Day celebration and parade.
Champ Day is the chamber’s salute to the legendary Lake Champlain monster that some believe inhabits Lake Champlain. The creature has been seen on the lake for hundreds of years.
“I have lots of ideas,” DuShane said. “Champ Day and Labor Day are our signature events. There may be more we can do to support businesses and the community.”
Business support is big part of her job, along with membership recruitment, tourism promotion, social media creation, and planning community events and activities.
The chamber office on Main Street in Port Henry will be open Monday through Thursday now, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“I encourage everyone to stop by and say hello,” she said. “I’ll also be on the road meeting our members and working with them. Economic growth is our goal.”
