LAWRENCE — Lawrence General and Holy Family Hospitals have welcomed cardiologists Besher Jazmati, MD, and Peter Ofman, MD, MSc, FACC, to its Community Medical Associates practice in Lawrence.
The well-known community cardiologists bring their years of heart health expertise and experience to the Lawrence community from their Nashoba Valley practices.
Dr. Jazmati received his medical degree from Aleppo University in Syria and furthered his training in internal medicine at The Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.
He also studied nuclear medicine at the Harvard Joint Program of Nuclear Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital.
His cardiology background includes training at the renowned Lown Cardiovascular Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Harvard Medical School.
He has also worked in electrophysiology at Lahey Clinic in Burlington.
Dr. Ofman holds a medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and completed his residency at Brown University. He went on to fellowship training at St. Vincent Hospital, the Boston VA, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, in addition to Baystate Medical Center and Tufts Medical School. Dr. Ofman speaks Russian and Hebrew.
Dr. Ofman focuses on general cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology and has a special interest in cardiac arrhythmia and preventative cardiology.
YWCA to honor top women leaders
ANDOVER —The YWCA Northeastern Massachusetts will honor 22 of the region’s finest women this year at its annual Tribute to Women awards luncheon on Thursday, May 15, from noon to 2 p.m. at Andover Country Club.
The luncheon serves as the YWCA’s major fundraising event each year.
“We were overwhelmed with the number of nominees this year,” said YWCA Executive Director Susan Staples. “Clearly, there is no shortage of talented and committed women in the Merrimack Valley.”
The 2025 Tribute to Women honorees are: Marina Acosta, Mary-Jo Anderson, Deirdre Budzyna, Alison Burns, Waleska Caceres, Luz Frazier, Kim Hearst, Edith Joyce, Zoe Larsen, Cynthia Masai, Lorie Mendoza, Isis Ortiz-Belton, Dawn Palmer, Linette Perez, Peggy Pistone, Peggy Ready, Luz Rodriguez, Kretcha M Roldan, Wanda Santos, Kathy Sherman, Diane Shikrallah, and Arleen Zorrilla.
This year’s keynote speaker will be, Yvonne Castaneda, LICSW, MSW, Director of Community Based Initiatives School of Social Work at Boston College.
Since 1983, the YWCA’s Tribute to Women awards luncheon has recognized nearly 875 Merrimack Valley women leaders from all walks of life.
Organizers say a hallmark of the event is that the women being recognized and honored get to share their remarkable and varied contributions to their community in their unique way.
All proceeds from this event go towards YWCA programs that support vulnerable women and low-income families throughout the Merrimack Valley and Essex County.
Tickets are $100. Pfizer will serve as the Diamond Sponsor again for the YWCA this year.

LAWRENCE — Lazarus House Ministries celebrates 30 years of the Drive for Dignity Golf Tournament supporting thousands of Merrimack Valley residents with food, clothing, shelter, community resources and advocacy services.
Starting in 1995, the Drive for Dignity Golf Tournament has been a staple of the Merrimack Valley’s golf season. Taking place on the Donald-Ross designed course at Andover Country Club, this event has raised millions of dollars to support the local community through corporate sponsorships and ticket sales.
