A new blend at Atomic Coffee Roasters in Peabody and Danvers will help give youth the opportunity to explore the great outdoors.
Called the “Loud Pow,” this medium roast made from Honduran, Nicaraguan and Costa Rican coffees has a mild citrus acidity and includes tastes of toffee and chocolate.
Atomic Coffee will donate $2 of each “Loud Pow” sale to the nonprofit Elevate Youth, which works with Boston area schools, organizations and volunteers to provide free nature programs for underserved kids.
“Loud Pow has become one of our favorite collaborations of the year,” Spencer Mahoney, vice president of Atomic’s operations, said in the statement. “Growing up snowboarding and skateboarding, their mission really resonates with me, and I love the programs they’re able to offer kids that may not otherwise be exposed to these types of activities.”
In addition to trips, the nonprofit provides youth with instructors, free transportation, equipment, guides, healthy provisions and weather-appropriate clothing. It has served more than 1,000 students and led 655 outdoor trips and sessions since starting in 2017.
Elevate Youth is partnering with Mount Wachusett and Weston Ski Track to bring students on 12 downhill and Nordic ski trips. For some, it will be their first time on skis.
“We are grateful for this collaboration with Atomic Coffee — not only for the financial support but also the opportunity to spread awareness around the importance of getting kids outside and active on a consistent basis,” Elevate Youth said in the statement.
“Nothing beats seeing a young person make that first big turn on a mountain with a smile from ear to ear.”
The name “Loud Pow” comes from a joke among east coast skiers, according to the statement. It’s how they describe the sound skis make when traveling over very hard ice, so “shredding the loud pow” means you’ve gone skiing on an icy day.
The new brew can be purchased at drinkatomic.com or at select cafes and markets in New England this winter.
