Neighbors and Newcomers Club of Cumberland County will hear from Ken Patton of the Cumberland Mountain Civil War Roundtable during its February meeting.
The meeting will be Feb. 26 at Fairfield Glade Community Church, 521 Snead Drive.
“After very chilly weather this winter, come and share in the warmth of friendship,” said Pat Richmond, publicity chair for the organization.
Members are encouraged to wear red or pink in observance of February as American Heart Month.
Guest speaker Patton lives in Fairfield Glade after making his home in Memphis for a number of years. He enjoys the history of the American Civil War and, though the war occurred between 1861-65, he analyzes the cultural changes and the civilian experiences from 1830-90.
“The U.S. is celebrating our 250th birthday this year, which
makes this slice of our history so important,” Richmond said.
The club will accept cookies from members for sale in its effort to fundraise. This month, members are collecting for the Youth Achievement Foundation.
The $22 catered lunch menu includes pulled pork or chicken, potato salad, beans, slaw and cupcakes.
The public is welcome to attend. Members and guests are asked to arrive by 10:30 a.m.
Reservations are required by Feb. 18. Email info@neighborsandnewcomers.org or call Cindy Leckvarick at 931-287-0081 for more information.
