The Northern Essex Community College men’s basketball team suffered its 46-game home win streak ended by a Bunker Hill Community College buzzer beater on Monday afternoon.
NECC, No. 8 in the most recent national rankings, fell, 96-95, ending a 21-game win streak this season and dropping its regular season mark to 23-3, 18-2 in conference action.
Lawrence’s Joendy Rosario put the Knights up one on a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left, before the visitors spoiled the party.
Javien Kirmil led NECC with 27 points, including seven three-pointers. Alex Johnson and Haverhill’s Alejandro Delgado finished with 13 points apiece, and Rosario added eight.
The Knights finish the regular season with a pair of road games before hosting a Region 21 quarterfinal playoff opener on Feb. 26.
NECC women lock up playoff spot
The NECC women stopped Bunker Hill, 65-62, to nail down a spot in the Region 21 tournament.
Mirelys Morales led the way with a 24-point, 14-rebound double-double.
Methuen’s Rhaelyn Gutierrez had a game-high 25 points, and Haverhill’s Shaneley Henriquez added a dozen.
NECC is now 9-11 overall and 7-6 in conference play. The Knights host Great Bay CC on Wednesday night at 6 in their regular season finale.
