PETOSKEY — The North Central Michigan College volleyball team had an incredibly busy week, playing five match, including two in league play.
The Timberwolves (14-10, 5-5 Michigan Community College Athletic Association) posted two victories, defeating Bay College 25-9, 25-20, 16-25, 25-20 and Milwaukee Area Technical College 25-19, 25-18, 25-19.
NCMC dropped matched versus Muskegon Community College 19-25, 16-25, 14-25, Kankakee Community College 25-27, 25-27, 8-25 and St. Clair County Community College 21-25, 16-25, 19-25.
The matches against Kankakee, Milwaukee and St. Clair County were all part of the Timberwolves Quad.
Taylor Hafeman (Gering, Neb.) was named to the Timberwolves Quad all-tournament team for her performances. During the tourney she picked up 53 digs, had an serve-receive rating of 98% and scored points on nine service aces. During the home game against Bay College, Hafeman picked up her 100th career service ace and is currently NCMC’s all-time leader for single-season and in a career.
Gimiwanokwe Keller (Harbor Springs) had two blocks, a kill and an ace and Abby Hicks (Leland) eight digs against Milwaukee.
Hicks added two digs and an ace against Milwaukee.
Ally Sutton (Kalkaska) had two kills against St. Clair, while Leah Fleis (Lake Leelanau St. Mary) put up four kills, two digs and a block.
Keller also had three digs and two blocks against Kankakee and two digs, to kills and a block against Muskegon. Fleis had three kills against Muskegon CC.
Monday, the Timberwolves welcome No. 13-ranked Grand Rapids Community College in the last home game of the season. The Timberwolves will celebrate their seven sophomore at the start of the match.
The men’s and women’s cross country teams had a week off as they prepare for the MCCAA & NJCAA Region XII Championship.
The Timberwolves XC teams compete at the MCCAA & NJCAA Region XII Championship on Friday at Goodells Park, hosted by St. Clair County CC. The runners will be competing against all MCCAA schools for the MCCAA Championship, all-conference awards as well as competing against all the DII schools in Region XII for the regional championship, all-region honors and a path to the National Championship.
