CHAMPLAIN — It took 11 innings to complete on Tuesday, but Northeastern Clinton won a high-scoring contest with a 16-15 decision over Saranac Lake in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference softball.
NCCS rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.
The Red Storm took a 15-14 lead in the top of the 11th on a RBI hit by Ayla Small, but stranded two runners.
In the home half, Bailee Lafountain drove in Katelynn Johnston with a base hit to tie it at 15-all. Lafountain then stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored the game-winning run on a passed ball.
“It was not a pretty game, but we got the job done in the end,” NCCS coach Carrie McComb said.
Kylee Surprenant and Desiree Dubois accounted for three hits each for the Cougars and Lafountain added two.
Emma Akey, Small and Kylee Meyer all homered for Saranac Lake, with Small finishing with six hits and Meyer three.
“Saranac Lake got off the bus crushing the ball,” McComb said. “We were able to answer in the first three innings, but they were able to take a four-run lead into the bottom of the seventh.”

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh High erased a 7-6 deficit with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and edged out a CVAC win.
Sadie Walker, Sadie Guerin, Madison Hunt and Madeline Whalen accounted for two hits each for the Hornets, with Marissa Silver getting the pitching win as she struck out seven and walked four.
Myleigh Drinkwine had three hits, including a double and home run, for the Sentinels. Addy Moore, Cassidy Mattison and Blake Charboneau chipped in with two hits apiece.
“We had a little bit of a shaky start, but the girls settled in and played their best game of the season so far,” PHS coach Cindy McMahon said. “Marissa pitched really well for us and we played good defense behind her after the first inning or two.
“We beat a really good team tonight and the girls should be proud of that. Ti hit the ball hard, ran the bases especially well and played solid defense. But we hung in there and our girls stepped up.
“Sadie Walker had a couple of big hits for us in her first varsity start. And, really, everyone chipped in. It was a good team win and will be something we can build on.”

BEEKMANTOWN 1
BEEKMANTOWN — The Patriots’ Laina Jennings defeated the Eagles’ Addi Jewell in a pitcher’s duel.
“Both pitchers threw the ball well and gave up limited hits,” Beekmantown coach Michele Barnes said. “Jennings did not walk a batter and really kept us off the bases.
“Addi is a freshman and she had a great varsity debut. The difference in the game was our errors. If we are going to win games, we need to be able to field the ball cleanly.”
Jennings allowed six hits and struck out six. Jewell surrendered seven hits, walked two and fanned six.
Addie Stanley and Anna Bailey led AuSable Valley’s offense with two hits each, with Bailey getting a double.
Kennedy Ritter and Ashley Barnes each had two singles for Beekmantown.
