CHAMPLAIN — Host Northeastern Clinton won its two games on Saturday to capture the championship in the first NCCS Wooden Bat Tournament, sponsored by A.N. Deringer, Inc.
The Cougars recorded a 16-10 win over Lake Placid in the semifinals and a 12-4 victory over Moriah in the finals.
The Vikings edged out a 5-4 win over AuSable Valley in the semifinals and Lake Placid was an 8-0 winner over the Patriots in the third-place game.
“Thank you to Lake Placid, AuSable Valley and Moriah for attending our first Wooden Bat Tournament,” NCCS coach Jeff Norton said.
“We were able to raise a good amount of money for the Mooers and Rouses Point Volunteer Fire Departments through the efforts of our team’s seniors service project.”

Sophomore Robert McIntyre went the distance for the victory as he allowed six hits, walked one and struck out nine. McIntyre retired 11 batters in a row at one point and threw 82 pitches in seven innings.
“Robert deserves a ton of credit for pitching a great game and getting the complete-game win,” NCCS coach Jeff Norton said.
“We still have plenty to work on, but this weekend was a step in the right direction for us.”
Garrett Pilon accounted for three hits and three RBI for the Cougars, including a two-run homer over the left-field fence with a wood bat.
Jacob Perkins added a double, triple and two RBI, Jimmy Wells two hits and two RBI, and Hayden Schad two singles.
Chase McGinness led Moriah with two hits and Joe Pelkey added a double.
THIRD-PLACE GAME
LAKE PLACID 8
AUSABLE VALLEY 0
Winning pitcher Jon Caito tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out eight in going the distance for the shutout.
Hyler Isham led the Blue Bombers with a double and two singles, while Jarrett Mihill added two singles.
Scott LaMountain had both Patriots’ hits, including a double. One of his hits was the 100th of his high school career.

The Cougars broke a 10-all tie with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in the high-scoring game.
Jimmy Wells, Owen Ebersol, Baylon Cronkrite, Jordan Wells, Isaiah Abad and Hayden Schad all had two hits each for NCCS, with Jimmy Wells driving in four runs, and Abad, Cronkrite and Schad two apiece. Jordan Wells scored three runs.
Pilon picked up the pitching win in relief.
Caito accounted for three of the nine Lake Placid hits, with one being a double.
“The game went back and forth the entire way until we broke it open with six in the sixth inning,” Norton said.
MORIAH 5
AUSABLE VALLEY 4
The Vikings held on for the win despite the Patriots drawing to within a run in the top of the seventh with two runs.
Winning pitcher Jake Mascarenas scattered three hits and struck out five in 5.1 innings. Pelkey finished up for the save.
Owen Nephew paced Moriah offensively with a pair of singles and Pelkey scored three runs.
LaMountain swung the big bat for AuSable Valley with a triple and double.

SOFTBALL
BEEKMANTOWN — Saturday, Beekmantown hosted a three-team tournament between themselves, AuSable Valley and Massena.
Each team played two games with the Patriots finishing 2-0, the Eagles going 1-1 and the Raiders finishing 0-2.
Awards were given out after the third game of the day.
AuSable Valley’s Raven Sessoms, Massena’s Emma Gushlaw and Lindsey Barnes received an All-Star team trophy.
The Patriot’s Cassidy Richards, the Raider’s Ainsley Cromie and the Eagles’ Anna Dutil earned the Leadership trophy.
Laina Jennings of AuSable Valley was named tournament MVP.
GAME ONE
AUSABLE VALLEY 17
BEEKMANTOWN 3
The Eagles held a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning. The Patriots would go on to score 16 of their 17 runs over the next three innings to defeat Beekmantown, 17-3.
Addie Stanley and Cassidy Richards had three hits for AuSable Valley.
Hannah Bates, Annie LaMountain, Renee Bruno, Laina Jennings, Kylie Akey and Anna Bailey record two hits for the Patriots. Lindsay Barnes had two hits for the Eagles as they were both for extra bases.
Jennings kept the Beekmantown bats off balance as she only gave up five hits while striking out five and walking two.
GAME TWO
AUSABLE VALLEY 9
MASSENA 4
AuSable scored six in the first three innings, and was able to keep the Massena bats off balance in a 9-4 Patriot victory.
Laina Jennins was again efficient from the circle giving up seven hits over seven innings while striking out two.
The Raiders did their most damage in the bottom of the sixth to close the gap to five runs, but it would be as close as they would get.
Ainsley Cromie recorded a double for Massena as Renee Bruno grabbed a triple for AuSable.
Bruno recorded a multi-hit game as did Cassidy Richards as both had two hits.
Mylin Laughing recorded 2 hits for the Raiders.
GAME THREE
BEEKMANTOWN 9
MASSENA 8 (8)
It’s always good to save best for last and it just so happened to be the game of the day between the Eagles and Raiders.
Beekmantown would walk the game off in the bottom of the eighth, 9-8.
The hero of the game would be Mia Perez.
It started in the seventh, with the Eagles down one run. Perez hit a single to get on base and was moved to second by Madi Fessette.
Hailey Tripi would bring her home on a single to make things even.
In the bottom of the eighth, Ashley Barnes reached on a single and moved to second on an error. Perez’ bat would come around again and bring Barnes home to win the game.
Mylin Laughing led the Raiders with three hits including a double. Emma Gushlaw and Kaylie Ledbetter recorded multiple hits with three and two, respectively.
Barnes (2), Perez (3) and Mackenzie Ring (2) recorded multi-hit games for Beekmantown with all their hits being singles.
