South Central College
The end of South Central College’s fall semester marks the beginning of new careers for three graduates of the college’s welding program.
Autumn Sikel, Tiffany Maxa and Bruce Hougo are the first three SCC students to receive scholarships through the Metallica Scholars Initiative.
SCC will award 20 more scholarships through the initiative this spring semester. The scholarships can cover tuition, fees and required program tools. New students pursuing mechatronics and welding at SCC’s Faribault campus or advanced agriculture technician and machine tool technology at the North Mankato campus are eligible.
The initiative is funded through a multimillion-dollar investment from Metallica’s foundation “All Within My Hands,” MSI provides scholarships in critical workforce programs at community colleges nationwide. SCC was selected from a competitive pool of applicants to receive $100,000 to support scholarships for new students beginning specific programs.
University of Minnesota-Rochester
University of Minnesota-Rochester recently recognized students who achieved high academic achievement during spring semester.
To be named to chancellors list, a student must have earned a 3.666 or higher grade-point average while completing a minimum of 12 credits.
The following area residents were named to the chancellor’s list.
Good Thunder — Annabelle Birr.
Mankato — Kristen Lageson.
Waseca — Sarah O’Brien.
Marquette University
Isaac Peterson, of North Mankato, recently graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee.
Peterson, one of 135 students to graduate from Marquette last semester, earned a bachelor of science degree in middle/secondary education.
Norah Timmerman, of St. Peter, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2023 semester at Marquette University in Milwaukee.
The following St. Peter residents were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2023 semester at Marquette: Anna LoFaro and Claire Nuessmeier.
To make the dean’s list, students must have earned at least 12 credits for the semester and have no disqualifying grades. The grade-point average threshold varies by college — for the College of Education and the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences, undergraduate students must have at least a 3.7 GPA to be named to the dean’s list.
The undergraduate GPA requirement is 3.5 for the following colleges: the Diederich College of Communication, the College of Business Administration, the College of Health Sciences, the Opus College of Engineering and the College of Nursing. All other programs have a 3.75 GPA minimum.
