SALEM, N.H. — A Nashua man accused of shooting and killing Salem native Robert DeCesare Jr. at the Sky Meadow Country Club last fall has been indicted on murder, attempted murder and assault charges.
Hunter Nadeau, 24, is charged with fatally wounding DeCesare and injuring two others in the Sept. 20 attack at the Nashua golf club.
DeCesare, 59, was killed as he shielded his wife, Charlene, and daughter, Mikayla, from gunfire.
The indictments were handed down by the Hillsborough County grand jury Thursday.
Nadeau was charged with alternative counts of purposeful first-degree murder and reckless second-degree murder for the shooting death of DeCesare, said N.H. Attorney General John Formella in a statement released late Thursday afternoon.
He was also charged with two counts of attempted murder, one for shooting Steve Burtman, and one for separately shooting at a group of people several feet away from him (Nadeau), Formella said.
Lastly, Hunter Nadeau was charged with two counts of first-degree assault, for purposely causing bodily injury to Steve Burtman and Brianna Surette by shooting each with a firearm, Formella announced.
Held without bail, Nadeau faces new criminal arraignments in early February at Hillsborough County South Superior Court in Nashua.
DeCesare, a father of three, had most recently lived in a townhouse at Sky Meadow but was previously a longtime Salem, N.H., resident. He graduated from Salem High School, class of 1984, and owned an HVAC company with his father.
He loved golf, pickleball, Caribbean vacations, fast cars and planes and music by the ‘80s groups Journey and Boston, friends and family members recounted during a celebration of his life at Centerpoint Community Church in Salem.
Mourners packed the church and overflowed into a large, adjoining room, standing along the walls. Some mourners listened from the parking lot for DeCesare’’s service.
The motive for the violence remains unclear. Assistant Attorney General Peter Hinckley previously said authorities were still investigating possible motives but they do not believe the shooting was a targeted attack.
Nadeau previously worked at Sky Meadow.
