For the fourth straight year, the Central Catholic gymnastics team captured the MVC Championship Meet title, on Friday at the A-2 Gym & Cheer in Salem, N.H.
Central won with 146 points, followed by North Andover (140.250) and Andover/North Reading (139.650) for second and third. Haverhill was fifth and Methuen was ninth.
“The team really came together for this win,” said Raiders head coach Heather Fusco. “Everyone contributed.”
For the second straight year, Central’s Zinnia Hopkinson was the top all-around performer, with a winning score of 37.8. She won the bars (9.5) and floor exercise (9.7), and was third on the vault (9.7). Last year, she finished with a 38.1 all-around score and won the same two events.
“Zinnia had a great meet,” said Fusco. “She had a fall on the beam but had a strong three events.”
North Andover’s Kaitlyn Micale was second in the all-around with a score of 37.60. Her highlights included taking second in three events, the bars (9.4), beam (9.4) and floor (9.55).
Alex Lee of Andover/North Reading had the third best all-around score of 35.8.
The other individual winners were Methuen’s Todd Herland in the vault (9.8) and Central’s Kaylan Wozniak on the beam (9.5).
“Kaylan is only a freshman, and she had a strong showing, as did junior Kallie McCarthy,” said Fusco, noting McCarthy was second on the vault with a 9.750.
