Andover
Through a stretch of six games, Andover scored just one goal. But over the last three games, the team’s offense got a jump start with seven combined goals in back-to-back wins over Central Catholic and Haverhill. On Tuesday night, the Golden Warriors ended in a scoreless tie with Dracut, and have a big game next Tuesday against the red-hot Methuen Rangers.
Andover needs that offensive to continue to click as the team has to finish 3-0-1 in the last four games against Methuen, Central Catholic, North Reading and Wakefield to qualify for the state tournament.
Central Catholic
Since going on an four-game winning streak, Central Catholic has gone 1-3-1 in its last five games. One of the tough losses came against Andover, 4-3, and Thomas Lewis supplied all of the offense, scoring all three goals. He was recently moved up from defensive center-back to midfield to try to give a boost to the team’s offense, and surely it worked.
“It was a great effort by the whole team,” he said about his career game. “Coming back from a 3-0 deficit is never an easy feat. Even though we didn’t walk away with the result we wanted, the ability to turn a game around like that is a good sign for the future.”
Methuen
The Rangers are enjoying an incredible 9-game unbeaten streak. Right in the middle of the success is senior captain Michael Holloran. He has played every single minute this season.
“Our team has been so successful this year because of our commitment to each other on and off the field,” said Holloran. “Our urgency and desire to succeed is unmatched compared to other teams. We don’t want to win, we need to win.”
North Andover
The Scarlet Knights have scored just one goal in their last three games, including losing back-to-back games to two strong MVC teams, Lowell and Billerica. The team’s top goal scorer Trevor Hunter (6 goals) ran into his former soccer and track teammate Wyatt Sanchez, who came to watch the team’s game against Billerica. Sanchez is competing for the Sacred Heart University men’s track team and Hunter said he’d like to follow him and run collegiate track as well.
