CUMBERLAND — The Levitt AMP Cumberland Music Series has been nominated by editors of USA Today’s 10Best Reader’s Choice Awards for Best Outdoor Concert Series, the Allegany Arts Council said.
The Reader’s Choice Awards highlight communities across the nation who are creating dynamic and engaging experiences for residents and visitors through programming, recreation and entertainment.
The Levitt AMP Cumberland Music Series joins 20 outdoor concert series and is only one of two Levitt stages across the country to be recognized.
The series is part of the Levitt Foundation’s Levitt AMP program, which provides $90,000 in matching grant funds to communities that present free music programs.
The series, which began in 2023, offers 10 consecutive weeks of free musical performance, and must occur in an underutilized public space.
The series took place on the Festival Grounds of Canal Place in 2023, and in 2024 will expand to include a performance at Hoffman Park in Frostburg.
The series is supported by funding from the Allegany Arts Council, city of Cumberland, Allegany County government, Frostburg State University and the Arts & Entertainment District of Cumberland, along with in-kind support from the Canal Place Preservation Development Authority and Allegany County Office of Tourism.
Voters may support the local program by voting daily through May 13 at https://10best.usatoday.com/…/levitt-amp-cumberland…/.
The top 10 will be announced on May 22.
The 2024 Levitt AMP Cumberland lineup will be announced soon, and runs weekly from June 6 to Aug. 8.
