MANKATO — The Minnesota State women’s soccer team scored five goals to win a shootout in a 1-1 result against Grand Valley State in the NCAA quarterfinals. Saturday at The Pitch. The Mavericks won 5-4 on PKs.
With the victory, MSU advances to the national semifinals.
The Mavericks trailed for much of the game, with the Lakers’ Sarah Fromm scoring in the 40th minute.
However, MSU’s Ashlyn Watt tied the game in the 82nd minute on an assist from Avery Korsching, which sent the game to overtime.
The Mavericks will play in the NCAA semifinals Friday at Matthews, North Carolina.
