FROSTBURG — Carter Clites garnered four total touchdowns, and Mountain Ridge routed Clear Spring, 42-0, on Friday.
The Miners (2-2), who ended a two-game losing streak, led 13-0 after the first quarter, 35-0 at the half and 42-0 entering the fourth.
Clites had his most-efficient performance of the season, completing 11 of 12 passes for 112 yards, two touchdowns with no interceptions.
He completed a 29-yard pass to Levi Clise for a touchdown with 3:20 left in the first quarter, and he connected with Daniel Swindle for a 24-yard aerial score with 28 seconds on the clock in the first half.
Clites also ran for a one-yard score with 8:26 remaining in the first, and he capped the scoring with an 11-yard scamper with 1:52 left in the third.
Kaiden Lissau had rushing touchdowns of six and eight yards at the 7:31 and 1:48 marks of the second quarter, respectively.
Mountain Ridge rushed for 169 yards on 30 carries, led by Lissau’s 95 yards on 11 totes. Clites added 49 yards, and Jasper Crissman had four totes for 33 yards.
Clise caught six passes for 66 yards to lead the Miners’ receivers.
Mountain Ridge out-gained Clear Spring, 308-102, and Noah Kenner and Nathan Miller intercepted Blazers’ passes.
Mountain Ridge is at No. 1 Frankfort (5-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. The Falcons have won a school record 19 games in a row.
No. 3 Petersburg 28 Moorefield 6
PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Third-ranked Petersburg exploded for 21 points in the third quarter to pull away from Moorefield on Friday.
The Vikings improved to 5-0 with the victory, their best start since winning their first five games in 2022. Petersburg lost its sixth game that year.
Petersburg hasn’t started 6-0 since 1980.
Moorefield (0-5) was within 7-6 at halftime before Petersburg’s three third-quarter touchdowns.
The Vikings’ Payton Metheny completed 9 of 20 passes and a 38-yard touchdown to Kaleb Kuhn. The sophomore added seven rushes for 57 yards and two touchdowns spanning one and six yards.
Lukas Wolford had eight rushing attempts for 48 yards and a 15-yard touchdown. Kuhn caught six passes for 170 yards and a score, and Evan Tawney added 36 rushing yards on five carries.
Wolford had 19 tackles and a tackle for loss to pace the Petersburg defense. Matthew McDonald had 18 tackles and one TFL, Wyatt Chandler ended with 10 tackles and one TFL, and Alex Halterman garnered 10 tackles, one sack and one TFL.
Petersburg is at Doddridge County on Friday at 7 p.m.
Moorefield has a bye.
East Hardy 46 Southern 19
BAKER, W.Va. — East Hardy scored 39 points after halftime to beat Southern on Friday for its first victory of the season.
The Cougars (1-3) led 7-0 after the first quarter, were tied 7-7 at the half and led 33-13 after three.
East Hardy did not respond to a request for statistics.
Southern (1-3) quarterback Jacob Brown had 22 rushes for 93 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 4 of 15 passes for 91 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
Brown linked up with Hayden Williams for a 24-yard score.
Pierce Ramos added 16 totes for 60 yards, and Hayden Harvey caught three passes for 67 yards.
Leading the Rams’ defense were Eli Friend with five tackles and a sack, Ramelo Haefner with five tackles, Jake Welch with an interception, and Will Dixon with a fumble recovery.
“I thought we played hard with a lot of effort,” Southern head coach Dave McLaughlin said. “They hit a few big passes and returned a punt for a touchdown. We have killed ourselves with our lack of special team play all year long.
“We will get back to work on Monday and get ready for Berkeley Springs.”
The Rams host the Indians on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
East Hardy is at Summers County on Friday.
