WESTPORT — A wide assortment of sporting and off-road vehicles, from a miniature 1971 Honda Trail 70 motorcycle to giant-tired modern ATVs that could hit over 100 mph, were at the Westport Fish & Game Club for its third annual Motorsport Extravaganza.
“We just wanted everyone to just get together so we could have a nice display of classic machines,” event organized David Supernault said.
“This is our third year, and we have had a good turnout. It’s not really a ride. It’s mainly to show off your bike.”
Participants were proud to display and discuss their rides.
Perhaps the hit of the show was the smallest, a rare 1971 Honda Trail 70, owned and brought back to mint condition by Bill Cogswell.
“I drive it all around, and it does well for a little bike,” Cogswell said. “It’s a very comfortable bike, and I can get 80 miles per gallon. Everything is original.
“People are quite surprised when they see it. This was a basket case. I had one when I was young. This is a four-stroke, which was rare in the 1970s.
“The hardest thing about it is getting a six volt battery that fits. The fins on the exhaust took me a long time. I had to straighten out every one of the holes.
“I’ve been doing it my entire life, and now my son Ryan is into doing this sort of thing.
“This bike has only 3,200 miles on it. Some guys have offered me $6 grand for it, but it will stay in my family.”
He then showed off a unique feature: handlebars that folded in, which made it easier to put in a vehicle.
Other activities included a cornhole tournament, raffles and jamming with ashwitmusic, including Ashley White and Mark Henry.
