A motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a deer on Purdy Road Monday morning.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about the motorcycle accident on the 4300 block of Purdy Road at 6:57 a.m.
Responding deputies determined that the motorcycle operator had hit a deer, then left the roadway and struck a telephone pole, sometime overnight. The motorcyclist was found dead at the scene.
“I don’t have an exact timeframe,” said Sheriff Michael Filicetti. “I believe the accident transpired several hours before it was reported. When you came down the road, it was very difficult to see the motorcycle or the operator. In the middle of the night, there’s not a lot of traffic through there.”
Filicetti said the operator was wearing a motorcycle helmet.
The collision is being investigated by the sheriff’s Accident Investigation Unit. The operator’s name was withheld pending notification of family.
