RAWLINGS — A motorcycle operator was injured Monday afternoon after reportedly crashing into another vehicle on U.S. Route 220 at Rawlings, according to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Christopher Hill said Shawn Locket, 39, of Cumberland, crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle driven by Justin Rose, 48, of Bedford, Pennsylvania.
Locket was taken to UPMC Western Maryland for treatment. Rose was not injured.
“Reports indicate that Mr. Locket’s vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision,” the sheriff’s office said in a release.
The Allegany County Joint Communications Center received the initial call just before 2 p.m.
The north and south lanes of Route 220 were closed for two hours while the sheriff’s office crash reconstruction team investigated the scene, Hill said.
Units from Cresaptown and Rawlings volunteer fire departments, along with ambulances from Cumberland and Tri-Towns EMS responded, according to a communication center spokesperson.
A Maryland State Police Aviation Command medevac helicopter was requested but was unable to fly due to weather.
Hill said the incident remains under investigation.
