TRAVERSE CITY – When the Grandview Parkway construction project going on now is over, the road rebuilding won’t be over.
A $19-million reconstruction project is queued up to start in spring 2025. Michigan Department of Transportation officials are inviting residents and community stakeholders, city representatives and local business owners to an open house to learn about the plan.
MDOT and its consultant, ROWE, will discuss the 2.2-mile project on M-72 (Grandview Parkway) and M-22 (Bay Shore Drive) from Division Street in Traverse City to Cherry Bend Road in Leelanau County’s Elmwood Township starting at 4 to 6 p.m. April 4 at Elmwood Township Hall, 10090 East Lincoln Road.
Draft designs will incorporate public comment already received at two prior public meetings. The purpose of the April 4 meeting is to gather additional feedback.
MDOT has been awarded a $14.4 million USDOT Rural Surface Transportation Grant under the Multimodal Discretionary Grants Program for this project. Another $2 million in grant funding through the Transportation Alternatives Program is expected to support non-motorized aspects of the work.
Final plans are expected by mid-2024, with the project being put out for bids this fall. Construction is expected to start in spring 2025, with that work spanning most of the construction season.
Attendees who require mobility, visual, hearing, written, or other assistance to attend and participate should contact Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or CurryO@Michigan.gov, at least five business days prior to the scheduled meeting.
