Mount View Assisted Living Facility recently celebrated the 105th birthday of beloved resident Marie Switalski. She was born in Dunkirk to Sophia and Charles Switalski on Aug. 13, 1921. After graduating from St. John Gualbert School and Villa Maria Academy, she displayed her talents while serving as the Cheektowaga town clerk and then worked as a secretary to Cheektowaga Supervisor Chase Zalemski. Marie was also employed in various other secretarial positions.
Marie was instrumental in fundraising events in the construction of St. Joseph Inter-Community Hospital in Cheektowaga. It was there that she formed the Ladies Guild, which raised more than $1 million for items needed for the hospital.
During her life, she was a member of St. Adalbert’s choir, CYO Advisor, Villa Maria Academy’s Alumni Association and Cheektowaga Senior Center’s “Sending Rays of Sunshine” group.
Anyone who has met Marie describes her as a humble, prayerful, loving and nurturing person. Compassion and friendliness are also two of her many assets.
