NORTH MANKATO — Additional felony charges have been filed against an 18-year-old in connection with the murder and alleged robbery plot against 17-year-old Tyson Goodsell in North Mankato on May 23.
Ryan Robert Wolner, of rural Mankato, is now charged with nine felony counts after an amended criminal complaint was filed in Nicollet County District Court on Monday. The new charges include aiding and abetting second-degree murder, aiding and abetting first-degree assault causing great bodily harm and two additional counts of aiding and abetting second-degree assault involving a dangerous weapon, according to a North Mankato Police Department press release.
Wolner was originally charged with aiding and abetting first-degree aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree aggravated robbery, two counts of aiding an offender after the fact involving obstruction of the investigation of second-degree murder and aiding an offender to avoid arrest by harboring or concealing, the complaint shows.
Investigators say Wolner helped arrange the planned robbery of Goodsell, who had agreed to meet a person he thought was to purchase $2,000 of THC cartridges. Wolner obtained an AR-style rifle from a friend’s residence before the arranged robbery, who told authorities Wolner had been storing it at his home for about two months in a duffle bag.
Wolner picked it up about 10 p.m. May 23, telling the witness he intended to use it to rob Goodsell. At some point, the rifle was reportedly handed off to Abdikhadar Fakhi Mohidin, 20, who fired six shots at Goodsell before leaving the scene, the complaint states.
Mohidin has been charged with second-degree murder without intent, attempted first-degree aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree aggravated robbery, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault.
After the shooting, the rifle was returned to the witness’ residence and then subsequently delivered back to Wolner at his family’s cabin. Investigators later discovered the bag matching the witness’ description in a vehicle driven by Wolner’s mother. It was empty at that time.
Wolner was on conditional release in a separate first-degree aggravated robbery case at the time of the incident and was prohibited from possessing firearms. He is to appear for an omnibus hearing Aug. 8.
