SARANAC — Gabe Moore led the way offensively with four hits on Saturday as Peru completed a home-and-home sweep of Saranac with a 13-4 win in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference baseball.
“I was really impressed with their line-up from top to bottom in the two games against them,” Saranac coach Robby Knowles said. “They had good production from the bottom of the line-up to help turn it over.
“We struggled to get ahead in counts and Peru did a good job taking advantage of that in their at-bats. They didn’t have one batter strike out the entire game.”
Jake Frechette added three hits for the Nighthawks, while Landen Duprey and winning pitcher Deacon Whitmarsh added two apiece.
Four different players had hits for the Spartans and Brady Blair took the pitching loss.
“We took nine walks, so we had some traffic,” Knowles said. “But we didn’t have any timely hits to get us back in the game.”

PLATTSBURGH —Dan Hartmann allowed four hits, three earned runs and struck out six in pitching the Hornets past the Wildcats in non-league play.
“Danny threw a great game for us today,” PHS coach Pat Shaughnessy said. “We were trying to line up our pitching for the next couple of games. We needed for him to give us at least five, but a complete game with relatively low pitch count was great.”
Warren Miller, Braeden Calkins and Andre Anderson led PHS with two hits each, with Miller getting a triple and Calkins a double.
“We fell behind early, but I was happy with the way we responded in the fourth inning,” Shaughnessy said.
“Braeden and Warren hit well in the middle of our line-up and Andre did a great job both offensively and defensively after being asked to start in the outfield.”
SCHUYLERVILLE 9
PLATTSBURGH 3
PLATTSBURGH — The visitors, leading by a 6-3 score, put the game away with three runs in the top of the seventh.
“Schuylerville was the best team we have faced so far this season,” Shaughnessy said. “We hung with them for the first five innings, but weren’t able to overcome their lead.
“They are a tough team, but I was proud with how we battled and didn’t give up until the final out.”
Nate Baker accounted for three of the Hornets’ six hits.
“Nate hit well for us this game,” Shaughnessy said. “He was locked in and it seemed like he was going to get a hit every time he got up.”
