GIRLS TENNIS
Beverly 5, Saugus 0: The second doubles team of Claire Fitzgerald and Caroline Kearney had a terrific day, combining for nine aces while hitting 29 winners in their 6-2, 6-1 victory that helped the Panthers improve to 6-4 on the season. Adeline Kontos and Olivia Devereaux both won their matches, 6-0, 6-0, at first and second singles, respectively, CaCee Tanzella added a win at third singles (6-1, 6-1). Maddie Litterer and Sophie Litterer (6-3, 6-2) also easily won at first doubles.
Peabody 5, Winthrop 0: It was a breeze for the Tanners (now 2-7) as junior Alexandra Kourtelidis (6-0, 6-0) and seniors Tiffany Bettencourt (6-0, 6-2) and Yasnelly Fernandez (6-0, 6-1) all won handily in singles action. The first doubles team of Anna Maciel and Artemis Greko also met little resistance in winning, 6-0, 6-0.
Masconomet 5, Gloucester 0: The Chieftains improved to 6-1 in Northeastern Conference play and 6-4 overall with their sweep. Ria Kundaliya (6-1, 6-0), Sienna Anvari (6-1, 6-1) and Ella Mossey (6-2, 6-4) were all successful in singles action. It was the same in doubles as Ava Zarrineh and Cyra Anvari (6-2, 6-0) rolled for Masconomet, as did Neva Partal and Isabella O’Connor (6-2, 6-2).
Swampscott 5, Danvers 0: Nikki Carr battled Josie Vogel of the Falcons before taking a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 win at first singles to pace the Big Blue. Other Swampscott winners were Ginger Gregoire (6-2, 2-0 (medical forfeit)), Ana Eccles (6-1, 6-2), Ava O’Donnell and Alexia O’Donnell (6-1, 6-1), and Eve Byrne and Lilly Carr (6-0, 6-0).
Ipswich 5, Pentucket 0: Now 7-2 on the season, the Tigers got straight set victories from sophomores Mae Borgman (6-1, 6-2), Leila Harb (6-1, 6-1) and junior Sarah Belford (6-0, 6-0). Senior Abbie Allen and her sophomore sister, Phoebe, won at first doubles (6-1, 6-0), while senior Tea Princi teamed up with freshman Iris Blaise and won at second dubs (6-2, 6-4).
BOYS TENNIS
Masconomet 4, Gloucester 1: Henry Tissera’s clutch 7-5, 7-5 win at second singles was a highlight for the Chieftains in their win. Parker Kurtz added a victory at third singles (6-1, 6-0), and the doubles teams of Arjun Schrejakar/Karthik Nargund (6-2, 6-0) and Akash Menon/Alex Raymond (6-2, 6-3) also walked off the court as winners.
Swampscott 3, Danvers 2: Despite the loss, Danvers got victories from first singles player Jack Scarpaci (6-3, 1-6, 10-6) and the first doubles team of Anthony Gaudino and Drew Maioli (6-0, 6-1).
St. John’s Prep 5, Malden Catholic 0: The Eagles didn’t do much heavy lifting in breezing to victory. John DeAngelis (6-0, 6-1), Rudr Malayya (6-0, 6-0) and Boris Lande (6-2, 6-0) took care of business in singles action, while the tandems of Ben Shore/Chris Melville (6-0, 6-2) and Alex Sideriris/Evan Haykal (6-3, 6-1) did likewise in doubles.
BOYS LACROSSE
St. John’s Prep 9, BC High 3: Gaining a measure of revenge from their only in-state loss this spring, the Eagles (now 11-2) used disciplined defense and timely offense to knock off the hosts in Dorchester. At the same time, they delivered head coach John Pynchon his 150th career win at his alma mater in this, his ninth season on the job.
Will Goff, Michael Quigley, Kevin Correa, and Bo Minogue were at the forefront of a defense that limited shots in front of goalies Max Putney (4 saves) and Mattheus DuPlessis (9 saves). Beckett Lee’s three goals paced the offense, with Josh Barton and Ryan McCarthy each adding a goal and one assist. Kevin Correa, Thias Tolo, Paul Kosinski and Minogue also scored, with Henry Bertrand adding one assist.
Salem 9, Saugus 8: Vincent Milano turned aside 16 shots in net as the Witches (4-9) overcame a slow start to prevail. Brothers Tyler (2 goals, 3 assists) and Jake Lister (2 goals, 2 assists) had big games offensively, as did Fionn Coughlin (3 goals, assist) and AJ Alessi (goal, 3 assists). Nate Silva also scored for Salem.
Peabody 13, Minuteman 7: Freshman Logan Bryte scored four goals, added two assists and eight ground balls while sophomore captain Matt Vaz also had four goals and one helper as Peabody (2-9) prevailed at home. Kellen Quadros also had a big day offensively with three goals and one assist, with Nathan CArne scoring the other two goals and dishing out an assist of his own. Mario Ippolito and Ethan Hartford added single assists, Spencer Turcotte scooped nine ground balls, and goalie Ben Wager made a dozen saves to earn the victory.
Ipswich 13, Essex Tech 4: Vin Winter (2 assists) and Luke Wile each scored four goals as the Tigers (7-3) won their fourth straight. Louie Harrington (3 goals), Travis Wilson (goal, 3 assists), Trevor Manning (goal) and JD Greenleaf (assist) also scored, with backup keeper Jack Machaiek stopping two shots for the win.
Essex Tech (now 0-11) hung tough, trailing by just two (5-3) in the third quarter. Chase Ruberti led the Hawks’ attack with three goals, with Luke Marino picking up a goal and one assist and Casey Collins also scoring. Tyler McHugh and goalie Connor Lacey (12 saves) both had one assist.
Hamilton-Wenham 16, Pentucket 15: Joe Hughes made 15 stops, many of those in the fourth quarter, and watched as defenders Will Siegal, Kyle Russo, Andrew Baum and Andrew Powers locked it down late as the Generals (now 7-3) earned one of their best wins of the season. Sophomore attack Zac Sachsel’s six goals and one assist led the attack for H-W, with Billy Brown (3 goals, 3 assists), Reid Faldi (2 goals, 3 assists), Aiden LaSelva (2 goals, assist), Andrew Wilbur (goal, 2 assists), Anthony Folger (goal) and Will Siegal (goal) adding to the offense.
Pingree 10, Proctor 4: Henry Card pumped in five goals and Finley McClintock captured 14-of-17 faceoffs to pace Pingree (now 6-6). Matt Tersolo added two goals and one assist for the winners, who also got solo tallies from Jake Hiltz, Connor O’Neil and Wyatt Langway, plus one assist from both Colin Driscoll and Christian Renaud. Marcello Amadeo’s 10 saves nailed down the victory in net.
BASEBALL
Hamilton-Wenham 5, Masconomet 0: Senior Owen Waddell struck out seven in a three-hit shutout for the unbeaten Generals (12-0). Chase Cann went 2-for-4 with a double and scored while Cormac Heney also doubled and RBI were collected by Matt Coughlin and Caden Schrock. H-W scored three in the sixth to break open a one run game as Masconomet (7-6) got outstanding pitching from Jacob Sofronas, CJ York, Henry Hoover and Drew Gustafson, who combined for 10 K’s. Cal Weidman had two of Masco’s three hits and Chase Lepore had the other.
Ipswich 17, Rockport 7: Cole Pezza went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI and the Tigers (3-9) snapped an eight game losing streak by exploding for 18 hits. Brady Merry had three of those while striking out 10 in five outstanding innings while Adam Guarino also had a three hit, two RBI showing. Graham McNamara and Callum Schofield added two hits each.
Swampscott 7, Stoneham 2: Caden Ross struck out five in a 4 2/3 inning relief appearance and added a key 2-run single as the Big Blue (8-3) won their fifth straight. Michael Collins added two hits and two RBI, Jami Ford hit a solo homer and Chase Groothuis and Aidan Brown also knocked home runs. Connor Chiarello had a big day as well with a single, two walks, three runs and a swipe.
Woburn 3, Beverly 1: Cal McCay (2-for-2) scored to give the Panthers (5-7) a 1-0 lead but the Tanners rallied to win in the late innings despite being held to one hit by Nate Sweetser (4 1/3, five K’s) and Jon Reyes (five perfect outs). Charlie Salerno had two hits for Beverly including a double.
Bishop Stang 11, Bishop Fenwick 0: The Crusaders (9-4) saw their four game win steak come to halt while being no-hit over six innings. Andrew Kiricoples struck out five in 3 2/3 innings but the Fenwickm staff was plagued by a total of seven walks.
Gloucester 10, Marblehead 3: Greyson Leventhal had a 3-for-4 day at the plate including a triple and two RBI and Marblehead (7-6) led 2-1 after three but the NEC Lynch leading Fishermen pulled away in the late innings. Will DePhillips hit a solo homer for the Magicians as well.
St. John’s Shrewsbury 4, St. John’s Prep 2: The Eagles (7-6) dropped a pitcher’s duel with only seven total hits. Owen Flanagan (five innings, three hits) and Jeremiah Ramirez (no hits in two innings) pitched well for St. John’s Prep while Maxwell Parent stroked a double while going 2-for-3.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Hamilton-Wenham 20, Pentucket 14: Evie Bernard had six goals and 14 draw controls while teammate Jane Boardman also had six goals as the Generals won a shootout on the road. Grace Glidden was also a major factor with four goals and two helpers, with Caroline Ciriello (2 goals), Pieper Tosh (her first varsity goal) and Bailey Shepherd (2 assists) adding to the Hamilton-Wenham attack.
Ipswich 15, Essex Tech 3: Keira McPartlin (2 goals) finished with five points and Natalie Elder (3 goals) added four of her own as the Tigers (9-3) won handily. Allie Wile also had three goals for the winners, who got additional scoring from Ella McCarthy (goal, 2 assists), Maddie Machaiek (goal, assist), Asuka Keough, Taryn O’Brien, Jules Rafferty, Kylynne Courville and Amani Mawuka. All three goalies — Vivian Bodycombe (3 saves), Miranda Baran (5) and Sydney Leonard (3) — shined as well.
Pingree 20, Brooks 8: The Highlanders won 20 of 28 draw controls with Isla Cleveland (three goals) winning 13 of those in a dominant showing. Caitlin Cunningham had five goals and five draws while Josei Collins scored two and won four. Ellie Bracken had a huge offensive game with seven goals and an assist.
SOFTBALL
Peabody 25, Swampscott 4: Kaylee DiNicola hit a 3-run homer and finished 4-for-4 with six RBI to pace a 22 hit attack for the Tanners (9-3). Taylor King (three runs), Lizzy Bettencourt (three runs, two RBI), Olivia Guarino (three runs, RBI) and JJ Emerson (three RBI) all had two hit outings and Ayanna Cirame went the distance in the circle. Maddie Lilley, Jailys Jaquez and Sienna McDermott all had hits for the Big Blue (0-11).
Georgetown 10, Hamilton-Wenham 5: Sydney Smith went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI for the Generals (5-7) while Lydia Reulet and Cassie Aceto also had two hits each.
Lexington 7, Beverly 1: Madeline MacNutt’s solo home run in the top of the seventh kept the Panthers (5-7) from being blanked. Lila Maker went 2-for-3 for Beerly while Keira MacNutt pitched well in relief.
Pentucket 6, Essex Tech 3: The Hawks were doubled up on the road, falling to 7-6 on the season.
Beaver Country Day 6, Pingree 1: Antonella Najim recorded her 200th career strikeout, punching out seven hitters overall for Pingree. Offensively, Molly Degnan was 3-for-3 with a double and drive in her team’s only run.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
BC High 3, St. John’s Prep 0: The Eagles fell in straight sets during their match in Dorchester, 25-11, 25-15, 25-16.
