GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hamilton-Wenham 45, Georgetown 42: Senior Sadie Gamber buried a 3-pointer to provide the lead with under a minute to go and Sasha Makogonov made a free throw to seal the CAL Baker championship for the Generals. Makogonov had a career-best 22 points along with 11 rebounds to lead H-W while Gamber scored six, Annie Moynihan scored seven with eight rebounds and Maren Cassidy played dogged defense on the Royals’ tough scorers.
Swampscott 54, Whittier 30: The Big Blue held the Wildcats to just 11 points in the second half to officially clinch a state tournament berth for the first time in six seasons. Freshman Anna Kanders scored 23 to lead Swampscott (10-6) defensively and sophomore Cecilia Tripp scored a dozen.
Essex Tech 30, Triton 27: Janelle Dalton scored a dozen points and Nicole Mwaura had a great defensive game to aid the Hawks (6-12) in victory. Thais Dos Santos and Avery Barteaux scored six each for Essex, which hosts Senior Night and its Cancer Awareness Game on Tuesday.
Wachusett 66, Bishop Fenwick 45: Junior captains Celia Neilson (20 points and 6 rebounds) and Caitlin Boyle (16 points and 8 rebounds) kept the Crusaders (8-9) in it but Fenwick was ultimately overpowered by the No. 2 ranked team in Division 1.
Waltham 75, Peabody 36: The Tanners (7-9) dropped a defensive struggle on the road with Maia Davis leading a balanced offense with seven points. Ally Bettencourt, Avery Bettencourt, Lizzy Bettencourt and Sophia Coburn all finished with six points.
Landmark 51, Covenant Christian 37: In the IGC quarterfinals, the Cougars fell behind by 14 in the first and couldn’t come all the way back. Novalee Jones had a strong game for CCA with 13 points while Lia Papanickolas, Julia Ray, and Abi Kinyua each scored seven.
Manchester Essex 45, Ipswich 26: The Tigers couldn’t keep pace with a pretty solid Hornets club in CAL Baker action.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Manchester Essex 72, Ipswich 51: Vin Winter had a career-high 18 points on six made three-pointers but the hot-shooting Hornets retained their spot atop the CAL Baker with a victory. Anderson Pillis and Trevor Manning scored six each in support for the Tigers, James Norris grabbed nine rebounds and Rex Satter handed out six assists.

Marblehead/Swampscott 47, Essex Tech/Masconomet 27: The Black-and-Blue (10-8) won their last dual of the year with wins by sophomore Jaymes Carey (106), captain Liam O’Brien (132), senior Greg Podstrelov (150), senior captain Mason Hinshaw (165), senior Alejandro Haven (175), junior captain Colin Hart (190) and senior captain Justin Gonzalez (285).
