BOYS TENNIS
Marbleheaders take part in USTA states: Marblehead’s first doubles team of Adam Loughlin and Alex Boehning upset the third seeded duo from Belmont, 6-4, 0-6, 11-9, before falling in the quarterfinals to highlight their team’s showing at the USTA Massachusetts High School Individual State Tournament.
The Magicians’ second round singles player, TJ Kelly, won his first round match vs. Andover, 6-4, 6-0, before dropping his next match to the draw’s No. 7 seed, 6-0, 6-0. Also, first singles player Ty Cooper competed and fell in a three-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.
SOFTBALL
Masconomet 5, Wilmington 4 (9 innings): The Chieftains won their regular season finale and will enter the playoffs with a 14-6 record. Back-to-back 2-out doubles by Ally Kalter (3-for-5) and Sabrina Cafarelli in the ninth inning plated what wound up being the winning runs. Sydnee Vocino provided a gutsy effort in the circle, throwing all 12 innings and issuing a mere two walks, while Angie Vecchio went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Emma McCormack had two hits.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Bishop Fenwick 11, Shawsheen 3: Camille Yanofsky, Ada Zaccaria (assist) and Allison Doherty each scored two goals as the Crusaders won a Division 3 play-in contest. Nieve Bachman added a goal and one assist while Ashlee Carlin, Sophie Koles, Alex Cannon and Cori McMeniman (5 draw controls) also scored for 27th seeded Fenwick (now 6-13). Goaltender Cam Martinez had a strong game with six saves in net.
BASEBALL
St. John’s Prep 7, Central Catholic 1: Sophomore Owen Flanagan threw a complete game and struck out seven batters to help the Eagles end the regular season with a winning record at 11-9. Jimmy DiCarlo hit two doubles for the Prep, Brady Baldassare doubled and had two RBI, Joe Bonavita racked up three RBI and Connir Durney also clubbed a double.
