BOYS LACROSSE
Peabody 9, Danvers 8: Captain Matt Bettencourt scored a season high five goals and fellow captain Aiden Haight stopped a dozen shots in net to give the Tanners (3-5) a clutch win. Derek Collins added a pair of tallies in the victory for Peabody, which also got a goal, an assist and more than a dozen ground balls from Johnny Lucas. Antonio Anzalone also scored while Brandon Berone dished out two assists. Also, junior middie Mason Clickscein recorded his first career point with one assist.
Ryan Rogers made 15 saves for the Falcons (2-5), which Sean Rivard scored once and added a career high five assists. Brady Tersolo (assist) and Cooper Dunham both added two goals; Lucas Goulet (first career goal/point), Jake Ryan and Connor Harvey had single goals; and Tommy Cyr picked up an assist.
Beverly 7, Masconomet 6: Talan Rafter and Matt Maloblocki each scored two goals and goaltender Matteo Lucrezia picked up his first win with a 13-save effort to give the Panthers (4-5) their fourth straight win. John Maloblocki (goal, 2 assists) and Aidan Sullivan (goal, assist) each added multiple points, with Brian Kessel adding his first varsity goal. Connor Wallace, Sean Costa and Matt Maloblocki (2) added assists.
Owen McNally paced the Chieftains (3-4) with three goals and one assist. Miles Mireault contributed a pair of tallies, Anthony Giacchino had one goal and one assist, John Miga had two helpers and Will Carey one. Goalie Jack Wheadon made four saves.
Gloucester 21, Salem 4: The Witches weren’t able to control the Fishermen, falling to 2-5. Mikey Curtin continued to lead Salem offensively, scoring twice and adding one assist. AJ Alessi added a goal and an assist, with Jake Lister and Andreas Bernal also scoring. Goalies Vincent Milano (5 saves) and Tony Tsminounis (7 saves) handled duties in net.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Peabody 17, Danvers 2: Madi Battett scored four times, had three assists and reached 100 goals for her career as the Tanners moved to 5-2. Brooke Lomasney added five goals with three assists, Ally Bettencourt had a hat trick and Connie Patturelli, Kayla Landry, Katie Amico, Addi Merrill and Victoria Vaz also scored. Caitlin Snow turned in another strong effort in net, stopping 9-of-11 shots.
Liv Henry and Jordan Turcotte scored the two Danvers goals, with netminder Megan McGinnity making six saves. Maddie Chase did well in both ends of the field for the Falcons as well.
Beverly 13, Masconomet 9: Sam Sprissler scored her 100th career point by finishing with three goals and two assists to power the Panthers (6-3) at home. Madeline Reynolds (15 saves) was stellar in goal while Liz Wilder and Charlotte Miller had excellent defensive games in front of her. Additional offense was supplied by Lily Shea (3 goals, 2 assists), Joselyn Silva (3 goals), Lauren Caley (2 goals, assist), Jenna Schweizer (goal) and Sasha Miller (goal).
Hannah Coleman led Masconomet offensively with three goals, with Caitlin Driscoll adding two while solo tallies came off the sticks of Bella Campbell, Mia Marques, Riley Bovardi and Caleigh Fates. Driscoll also had eight ground balls while Grace Blaney and Bovardi scooped five apiece.
Bishop Fenwick 18, Malden Catholic 8: Olivia Watson had a fine game in victory for Fenwick (5-1), picking off three passes and causing four forced turnovers. The offense for the Crusaders was provided by Kiley Bloom (4 goals, 3 assists), Lauren Woods (4 goals, assist), Breanna Genzale (3 goals), Hannah Bettencourt (3 goals), Molly Sullivan (2 goals) and Allison Doherty (1 goal).
GIRLS TENNIS
Danvers 3, Beverly 2: Sweeping singles action gave the Falcons the victory over their NEC rivals. Procuring wins were Madison Savage (7-5, 6-3), Sophie Sanidas (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) and Josie Vogel 6-2, 6-2).
Peabody 4, Gloucester 1: Second singles player Valentina Goga won her first match of the season, 6-1, 6-2, while third singles player Yasmine Giacalone swept her match, 6-0, 6-0, to power the Tanners. Doubles wins came from Theodosia Kourtelidis and Jill McGrath (6-0, 6-3) and Vanessa Kolani and Argiro Psyhogios (7-6 (7-3), 6-2).
Swampscott 3, Winthrop 2: Wins by third singles player Sasha Fafel (3-6, 6-2, 6-4) and both doubles teams enabled the Big Blue to emerge victorious. Victoria Quagrello and Eve Byrne won at first doubles, 6-0, 6-1, with Ava and Alexia O’Donnell doing the same at second doubles, 6-0, 6-0.
Ipswich 5, Pentucket 0: Second singles player Abbie Allen and No. 3 Tess O’Flynn didn’t drop a game as the Tigers rolled on the road. First singles player Claire Buletza also won handily, 6-0 6-2, as did the doubles teams of Nora Hickey/Lila Borgman and Abbie Wallace/Frannie Hertz, each of whom prevailed 6-1, 6-2.
Lynnfield 4, Bishop Fenwick 1: The second doubles team of Jackie Dormer and Maggie Wichroski won for the Crusaders, 6-3, 6-4.
BOYS TENNIS
Swampscott 5, Winthrop 0: Brothers Charles and Sam Schepens, a senior and sophomore, respectively, won at first and singles 6-0, 6-0 to help the Big Blue improve to 5-1. Clean sheets were also turned in by Nick Custer and Trevor Talebian and first doubles, as well as Elijah Stadtlander and senior captain James Dicker at No. 2 doubles. In addition, Julian Flake won his match at third singles, 6-1, 6-0.
St. John’s Prep 5, Catholic Memorial 0: Jack DeAngelis (6-2, 6-0), John Prokopis (6-0, 6-0) and Luke Free (6-0, 6-0) breezed in singles play for the Eagles, with doubles partners Mark McDuffee and Wade Evitts, as well as Alex Melville and Charles Weld, also sweeping their matches.
SOFTBALL
Peabody 3, Archbishop Williams 1: Sophomore Lizzy Bettencourt sent a walk-off 2-run homer over the fence in the bottom of the seventh to propel the Tanners (4-1). Older sister and senior captain Abby Bettencourt went the distance in the circle with eight strikeouts in a 4-hitter and also doubled. Jess Steed had an RBI for Peabody and senior captain Logan Lomasney went 2-for-4.
Wilmington 6, Masconomet 3 (8 innings): Senior first basemen Mia theberge drove in two runs to tie game at 3-3 but the Chieftains (1-3) gave up three unearned runs in extra innings. Freshman pitched Sydnee Vocino struck out eight and threw all eight frames.
North Reading 8, Ipswich 0: The Tigers battled for the full seven innings but ultimately fell to 0-5 on the season.
Saugus 5, Swampscott 4: Maddie Lilley had two hits and two RBI for the Big Blue (1-3) but the Sachems plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the victory. Olivia Barletta doubled and scored for Swampscott and Lucia Alvarado went 2-for-3.
BASEBALL
Peabody 7, Saugus 1: Freshman Dylan Cunningham tossed a three-hitter with six strikeouts and the Tanners improved to 6-2 with a road win. Jariel Tolentino went 2-for-4 at the dish and scored twice, Joey Smith drove home two runs and Cam Connolly and Noah Crocker each had hits with one RBI. Peabody played stout defense behind the freshman fireballer with zero errors.
Marblehead 7, Bishop Fenwick 4: The Magicians (4-3) took advantage of some Fenwick miscues to win their third straight. Bodie Bartram and Greyson Leventhal each drove home a pair of runs while Riley Schmitt, Stef Shepard, Charlie Sachs and Brooks Keefe had hits. Carter Sahagian earned the win with four innings of work.
For the Crusaders (2-4), Jacob Behn went 3-for-4 in the leadoff spot and Henry Vanfassen collected two RBI.
St. Mary’s Lynn 2, Salem 1: Senior captain Riley Fenerty was immense for the Witches (2-2) with 13 strikeouts in a one hit effort. He also had an RBI double at the plate and Rocco Ryan doubled and scored against the unbeaten Spartans.
BC High 10, St. John’s Prep 0: The Eagles (3-3) were no-hit over six innings on the road against their arch rivals. Braeden Hurley and Alex Ciancaruso each threw scoreless relief innings for St. John’s.
GIRLS TRACK
Beverly 49, Peabody 87: Junior Grace Galbreath continued her excellent season with first place wins in both the 100 hurdles (16.4 seconds) and 400 hurdles (1:12) to give the Panthers a victory over the mighty Tanners. Sophomore Grace Williams remained unbeaten in the 800 by prevailing (2:30), while senior Caroline McKenna tief for the top spot in the high jump (4 feet 6 inches) while recording a PR. Captain Alison Prasse also excelled in victory, turning in a 5:54 mile time to also remain unbeaten in that event.
BOYS TRACK
Masconomet 108, Swampscott 28: Double-winners for the Chieftains were Arbri Halilaj (100, 400), Adam Staffier (low hurdles, 200) and Nathan Molina (long jump, high jump).
GIRLS TRACK
Masconomet 110, Swampscott 26: Caroline Losee tripled up to win the high jump, triple jump and ran a leg of the winning 4×100 relay while the sisters relay of Lilly and Finley Podgurski and Willa and Ada Paglierani won the 4×400. Also wining were Lauren Boughner (long jump), Sophia Doumas (shot put), Remmi Cote (javelin), Sami Lalikos (discus), Sophia Santangelo (high hurdles), Piper Testa (200), Ellie Green (mile) and Jenna Lindsay (400).
MEN’S COLLEGE TENNIS
Salem State 8, UMass Boston 1: The Vikings (5-5) won their fifth straight match behind doubles wins from Cory Cherico/Mark Wood, Kevin Merino-Rivas/Quentin Wilkins and Michael Muttiah/Josh Gruber. Singles winners were Wilkins, Wood, Merino-Rivas, Gruber and Muttiah.
