GIRLS LACROSSE
Peabody 12, Marblehead 3: Junior Brooke Lomasney scored six times and became Peabody High’s all-time leader in girls lacrosse scoring on an early goal assisted beautifully by Ally Bettencourt. With 18 goals in four games, Lomasney now has 257 career points, surpassing the 252 notched by Lauren Wolff from 2014-17.
Bettencourt had a hat trick with an assist while Maia Davis, Kayla Landry, Connie Patturelli and Addi Merrill shone defensive for the Tanners (2-2) in terms of causing turnovers and locking down a very good Marblehead squad. Caitlin Snow played well in net with six stops.
The Magicians (1-4) played well defensively against Peabody’s high-powered attack and got three goals and three draw controls form Maddie Forbes. Molly Bullard made seven stops in net.
Beverly 20, Danvers 5: Lily Shea and Lauren Caley combined for a dozen goals with six each and the Panthers (4-2) won their fourth straight conference game. Joselyn Silva had four tallies and two assists, Samantha Sprissler, Sasha Miller and Elliot Lund and Madeline LeBlanc also scored and Madeline Reynolds made 10 saves.
Abigail Sullivan scored twice for Danvers (1-5) while Jordan Turcotte had a goal and a helper. Maddie Chase stepped in at goalie and stopped seven shots. Jordan Bartlett and Savannah Botthof also had goals, and Kailyn Richards picked up an assist.
Swampscott 17, Salem 1: Sophia Ciciotti, Cecilia Tripp, Madeline Goldman, Mia Leone and Coco Clopton all had two goals and the Big Blue (5-0) remained unbeaten to set up an NEC showdown with Beverly on Thursday. Mia Dahlam had a goal with four assists and Avery Laundry and Audrey Heath also had multi-point outings.
BOYS LACROSSE
Beverly 10, Danvers 6: John Maloblocki had three goals and two assists while goalie Colby Vaccaro made nine saves as the Panthers (1-5) broke into the win column for the first time this season. Connor Wallace (assist) and Will Burgess both added two goals for the winners, who also got tallies from Chris McKie, Matt Maloblocki (plus an assist) and Brendan McCarron, as well as solo assists from Tim Harrington, Brad Griffin (plus 7 ground balls), Brian Kessel, Talen Rafter and Aidan Sullivan.
The Falcons (2-3) saw captain Sean Rivard lead the offense with three goals and an assist. Tommy Cyr, Connor Harvey (plus an assist) and Logan Jacques (first varsity goal) also scored while Cooper Dunham dished out three assists. Ryan Rogers stopped 13 shots in net, and Evan Roach won 13-of-19 faceoffs.
Marblehead 17, Peabody 0: Finn Gallup stopped three shots in three quarters while Colin Maniaci had two saves in the final quarter to complete the shutout as the Magicians (3-2) won their second straight. Reece Moore (3 goals, assist), Greg Motorny (2 goals, assist), Cam Waldman (2 goals, assist), James Achterof (2 goals), Will Sullivan (goal, assist), Hogan Sedky (goal, assist), Drew Nelson (goal, assist), Jack Whipple (goal), Gio Garibotto (goal), Logan Doody (goal), Bodie Smith (goal), and Cam Harvey (goal) took care of the scoring, with Owen Dulac (2) and Jackson Story adding assist.
Senior captain Aiden Hight was busy in net for Peabody (1-4), finishing with 16 saves.
Swampscott 15, Salem 5: Jason Rothwell found the back of the Witches’ net five times and also had an assist while Liam Keaney scored twice and helped on four others to keep the Big Blue (5-0) unbeaten. Jack Hazell (3), John Von Barta (2), Chase Russo (2) and Carson Palmer also scored for the winners, with Palmer (2), Luke Michigan, Sam Brodsky, Von Barta, and Russo picking up assists. Goalies Timmy Sheehan (3 saves) and Joey Pilotte (2 saves) both played well in net.
Mikey Curtin had four of his team’s five goals to pace Salem (2-2) offensively. Jake Lister added a goal and an assist while Jayden Benson had one assist and scooped a team-best five ground balls.
Masconomet 9, Lexington 7: Despite three goals and a pair of assists from Miles Mireault, the Chieftains (2-2) couldn’t pull out the victory. Colin Driscoll added two goals, Anthony Giacchino had one snipe and two assists, and Will Carey also scored while John Miga and Colten Russo had solo assists. Goalies Tyller Goncalves (4 saves on 8 shots) and Jack Wheadon (3 saves on 5 shots) held the fort in net.
GIRLS TRACK
Masconomet defeats Saugus: Team newcomers accounted for 44 points as the Chieftains knocked off their Northeastern Conference foes. Sophie Doumas (shot put, discus), Piper Testa (200, 4×100 relay), and Jenna Lindsay (400, 4×400 relay) all captured two events for the winners. Other first place finishes for Masconomet included Ada Paglierani (400 hurdles), Madison Gibeau-Schmitt (2-mile), Mara Siewko (long jump), Tessa Rossi (javelin), Eva Levanities (100 high hurdles), Teagan Kane (mile) and Ellie Green (800).
SOFTBALL
Newburyport 8, Beverly 2: The Panthers (4-1) were knocked from the unbeaten ranks despite some solid performances at the plate. Athena McKenna went 2-for-4 with a double, Lidia Miedema was 1-for-3 with an RBI single and Meredith Johnston provided two hits and an RBI.
Saugus 14, Hamilton-Wenham 11: Molly Degnan went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBI but the Generals (1-3) fell in a high-scoring contest. Viola Fazio scored three times and had two hits and Maren McCaughey also had two of H-W’s 13 total hits.
Manchester Essex 11, Ipswich 10: Despite falling behind early, the Tigers nearly pulled off a late rally on the road under the lights.
BASEBALL
Chelmsford 10, St. John’s Prep 6 (10 innings): Tyler Spear had a double and St. John’s (1-2) scored four in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5 and force extra innings. Jack DiFilippo doubled in Gavin Gold (double) in the ninth with the tying run after the Lions went ahead in the top half. St. John’s was unable to scratch out the winning run, though, and Chelmsford scored four in the top of the tenth. Nic Lembo added three hits for the Eagles.
Georgetown 10, Ipswich 0: James Norris had a pair of hits but the Tigers (2-2) were blanked by the CAL Baker leading Royals.
Andover 10, Beverly 5: Danny Pierce went 3-for-3 with two RBI from the leadoff spot but Beverly (2-1) couldn’t hold leads of 2-0 and 4-3 when Andover exploded for seven runs in the fifth to pull ahead. Jon Reyes also went 3-for-3 at the dish and Casey McGrath drove home a run.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Salem State splits: The Vikings (9-15) got one over on Framingham State, 3-2, but also lost 9-0 to split a MASCAC doubleheader. MaKayla Rooney of Peabody and Brooke Grassia had big hits in the FSU win while in SSU’s victory, Emily Carter threw all seven innings and worked around seven hits. Mackenzie DeSantis knocked in the winning run with a double in the fourth.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Vikings rally for split: Salem State held off Framingham State, 5-4, after falling by a 7-1 score to go to 13-10 on the season. Owen Duggan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the tie-breaking run in SSU’s win and Jake Boucher threw the final two innings without allowing a baserunner to earn a save. Dylan Adamson also went 2-for-3 with a triple.
Plymouth State 16, Gordon 10: The Scots tried valiantly to catch up after spotting the visitors seven runs in the top of the second, but were ultimately unable to. C.J. Demers, Evan Clark, and Joey Kazlauskas all bashed homers for Gordon (6-22) while Jonathan McIntyre added three RBI.
