FIELD HOCKEY
Essex Tech 4, Triton 3: Cayla Carpenter, a junior, scored once and assisted on her team’s other three goals to give the Hawks (2-5-3) a season split with Triton. Gigi Barrows added a pair of tallies and Brianna George had one, with Angelina Craig adding one assist. Goalkeeper Frankie Roper earned the victory in net after making five saves.
Hamilton-Wenham 3, Amesbury 1: Viola Fazio scored off a stroke and teammates Molly Ryan and Erika Mastrocola added traditional goals to give the Generals (4-3-2) a win on the road. Annie Soleimani had two assists for Hamilton-Wenham, which got five saves from goalkeeper Ruby Gladchun.
Bishop Fenwick 6, Arlington Catholic 1: Sophomore Sophie Cooke added to her team-leading goal and point totals by scoring three times and dishing out one assist in a runaway win. Shea Mason (2 goals, assist), Bella McCormack (goal, assist), Ale Kohalmi (assist) and Reese Robillard (assist) all got on the scoresheet, with goalies Sarah Bannister (1 save) and Ginny Cahill (5 saves on 6 shots on net) splitting time between the pipes.
Danvers 1, Peabody 0: Junior Addie Moore’s third goal of the season was the only one that the Falcons (now 3-4-1) would need to capture their third straight victory. Molly Verhoosky turned aside five shots for the shutout, with Alli McGinnity and Meg Ryan also playing well on defense. Kyla Moroney assisted on Moore’s goal, and teammate Ava Patch was a standout in the midfield for Danvers.
An excellent defensive showing by Peabody, spearheaded by 12 saves from goalie Sophia Kassis plus one defensive save apiece from Natalia Targett and Amayah Francher, highlighted the day for the visitors. Eva Briggs, along with Targett and Francher, all played well on the defensive line.
BOYS SOCCER
Salem 2, Gloucester 0: Two juniors, Nile McManus and Brian Mbombap, had the goals to propel the Witches (5-4-1) on their home turf, snapping a four-game winless streak in the process. Max Warren picked up the shutout in net. Senior captain Guywintz Jules and freshmen Finley Rogers ands Lachlan Brierley were all standouts in the Salem win.
“I thought we had strong possession most of the game,” said Salem head coach Padraic Slattery, whose team netted multiple goals in one game for the first time in almost three weeks. “The second goal took a while, (and) the last couple weeks it’s been hard to get the ball in the back of the net, but we finally did it.”
Masconomet 5, Peabody 0: Quinn Loedwick and Enzo Nteta both found the back of the net twice to propel the Chieftains to a shutout win. Norman James also scored for the winners, with Luke Fiedler, Sam Costa, Chester Thompson, Dave Palmer and Ashton Guragana all picking up one assist. Mate Mroczek, Matteo Steffanelli and Griff Podgurski also had terrific games for Masconomet.
The Tanners got strong performances from Chris Oliveira, Thad Broughton, Marshall Simpson and Cam Fletcher.
Lynn Tech 2, Swampscott 0: The Big Blue fell to 3-3-2 while failing to score for the third straight outing. They’ll host to snap that streak Friday when they play at East Boston.
Beverly 5, Danvers 0: The No. 2 ranked team in Division 1 remained unbeaten and flexed its muscles in the process.
GIRLS SOCCER
Hamilton-Wenham 3, Essex Tech 0: Bailey Shepherd’s fifth goal of the season, Savannah Gauron’s eighth, and Ainsley MacDougall’s fourth were plenty for the Generals (now 7-0-1) to take down their Cape Ann League rivals. Dusty Romiza assisted on the latter two goals, with Lilly Giovannucci doing so on the first tally. Olive Vevilacqua earned her fourth shutout of the season in net.
Junior Lucy Gaddis and senior Sydney Mace turned in excellent performances for the Hawks, who are now 3-4-1.
Marblehead 2, St. Mary’s Lynn 0: Sophomore Lucy McDonald picked off a Spartan clear and scored the game-winner in the first half for the unbeaten Magicians (6-0-2). Junior Lucy Church also finished off across from senior Liv Carlson and junior Callie Gilmore had an incredible all-around game against a quality foe. Hailey Gilmore had a fantastic game in net with nine saves while Sydney Ball, Ainsley McDonald, Camryn O’Brien, Cora Gerson and Courtney Histerich all had great games along with junior Colette Leighton.
Phillips Andover 5, Pingree 0: The Highlanders (4-2 overall) had a tough go of it on the road.
Salem 1, Gloucester 0: The Witches (5-2-1) picked up their second straight shutout win.
Masconomet 4, Peabody 0: Sophomore Maggie Blosser potted a pair of goals and the Chieftains improved to 7-2. Freshman Ella Cammarata also scored while classmates Mia Schiavuzzo (goal) and Maddie Orciuch (assist) both had their first varsity points. Evy Mills posted the shutout while Cate Shaffer and Sophie Nelson helped control the midfield.
GOLF
Beverly 54, Salem 18: Tyler Chin-Aleong and Kyle Gambale both won their matches in 9-0 clean sweeps to propel the Panthers. Ryan Everett added a tidy 8-1 victory and Anthony Barror captured his match 6-3 for Beverly, which improved to 8-3 on the season.
Salem got solid play from Matt Kenney, Shea Christel, AJ Alessi, Alyson Gill and Cam Moran.
Swampscott 54 1/2, Peabody 17 1/2: Tyler Ostroff fired a 37 to lead the Big Blue while Mike Collins was close behind with a 38, sending their team (5-4) to victory at The Meadow at Peabody. Luke McGonagle contributed a 39 for the winners while both Cole Manning and Paul Calsimitto shot 40s.
Masconomet 62 1/2, Saugus 9 1/2: Freshman Brendan O’Connor shot a 2-under par 33 at Cedar Glen to help keep the Chieftains (8-0-1) unbeaten. Cole Velardo added a strong 35 while Brendan Sheehan, Charlotte Rollins and Cooper Wassung all shot 36s.
Newburyport 199, Hamilton-Wenham 189: Red Faldi and Grayson Minich each finished with 38 points for the Generals, who battled the hosts before dropping a close match at Rowley Country Club. Liam Berrigan also had a strong round for H-W, winding up with 35 points.
VOLLEYBALL
Essex Tech 3, Hamilton-Wenham 0: Sophomore outside Lavinya Oliviera had seven kills, five aces and 13 digs to spark the Hawks to a three-set sweep, 25-23, 25-14, 25-12. Ava Rocheleau, also a 10th grade outside hitter, had five kills while juniors Devyn Stapleton at middle hitter (6 kills, 2 blocks) and Chloe McGillivary at libero (10 digs) also shined in the win.
Evelyn Esdaile, a junior, came off the bench for the Generals (3-7) to provide a pair of aces, and fellow junior Grace Harres paced the offense for H-W with five kills.
Pentucket 3, Ipswich 0: Alex Angel had three kills and block for the Tigers and Emma Eliot had four assists, Maya Savory had four aces and Leila Harb added eight digs.
