BOYS SOCCER
Masconomet 4, Peabody 2: Jack Fielder and Gabe Fatin both had a goal and an assist and the Chieftains outlasted the Tanners. John Green and Jacob Olsen also scored, Tennant Bryson had an assist and Aidan Colleran, Jack Savitsky, Connor Buser and Quinn Loadwick displayed strong play all over the field. Peabody got its goals from Owen Brennan and Daniel De Andrade with assists from kacper Kowalczyk and Marc Smith. Joaquim Nunes, Jason Decost and Yaphet Djimeli played well for the Tanners.
Beverly 3, Danvers 1: Daniel Silva notched a pair of first half goals, both assisted by Connor Sullivan, enabling the Panthers (7-3) to prevail. Sullivan added an insurance goal in the second half, with Wes Roberts assisting. Goaltender Connor Connolly picked up the victory in net, with Jordan Lacrignola also having a standout game.
Danvers scored on a loose ball in the box after a free kick.
GIRLS SOCCER
Pingree 3, Phillips Andover 3: Ari Schwinn Clanton and Shauna O’Brien each had a goal and an assist and the Highlanders (3-2-2) came from two down to tie a very strong Phillips squad with O’Brien netting the tying goal in the second half. Maddy O’Connor also scored for Pingree.
Bishop Fenwick 1, Cardinal Spellman 1: Freshman Piper Palazola netted her first varsity goal with an assist from sophomore Reese Spurchise and the Crusaders (5-3-1) extended their Catholic Central League unbeaten streak to four. Juniors Mia Zimmerman, Valentine Gregory and Fiona Corcoran had strong outings on defense and Annie Swanson stood out at midfield.
Masconomet 5, Peabody 0: Ava Wexler burst out with two goals and two assists and the unbeaten Chieftains (10-0) made it ten straight to begin the 2024 season. Sophomore Maggie Blosser added two more goals while Amanda Schneider buried one and Sophia Nelson and Violet Malinowski picked up assists. Teagan Skulley and Lily Blosser held it down defensively and Evy Mills posted her fifth consecutive shutout.
The Tanners (3-4-3) got a strong outing from Connie Patturelli as well as a bevy of saves from steady keeper Alessandra Forgione.
Swampscott 3, Malden Catholic 0: Lyla Rogers netted a pair of goals and Greta Siefken scored while assisting on another as the Big Blue (3-4-2) broke back into the win column at home. Eve Byrne earned most of the shutout with Eastern Cunningham holding strong at the end in net while Fiona Keaney recorded two assists.
Gloucester 4, Salem 1: Hadley Austin netted her first goal of the year for Salem (2-6-1) with an assist from Jackie Fritz. Defensively, Julia Gauthier and Kai Gillis played well for the Witches while Lizzy Read pushed the pace up top.
FIELD HOCKEY
Ipswich 1, Hamilton-Wenham 0: Freshman Ava Piore netted the only goal of the game, her team-leading fifth of the season, on a penalty corner with an assist from sophomore Julia Hubbard to power the Tigers (4-4-2) past their arch rivals. Sophie Johannknecht, a junior making her first start in net, had to make just two saves for a perfect night in net.
Ava Baughn had a pair of saves between the pipes for Hamilton-Wenham (now 3-4-2), which also got fine performances from Samantha Nevins, Rowen Sheckells, Viola Fazio, Skylar McNall and Molly Ryan.
North Reading 3, Essex Tech 0: Franceca Roper made three saves in net for the Hawks (now 4-5-1), with Samantha McClure putting forth an excellent all-around effort as well.
VOLLEYBALL
Ipswich 3, Newburyport 2: Up 2-0, the Tigers dropped just their fourth and fifth sets of the season before rallying to win and improve to 10-0. Claire Buletza had 20 kills and 16 digs to pace the three-time defending Division 4 state champions, with Alex Marino dishing out 35 assistrs, Emily Hannibal recording three serving aces, and Addison Pillis blocking two shots. Ipswich won by scores of 25-15, 25-16, 22-25, 19-25, 15-6.
Bishop Fenwick 3, Beverly 0: Teagan Davenport had a great match with 15 assists and eight aces and the Crusaders (10-2) made it four straight sweeps, 25-10, 25-18, 25-13. Charlotte Spooner and Brittney Figulski had five kills each, Gwen Schroeder had 21 digs and Kylie Murphy provided five blocks. Aleek Kuot had 10 kills for Beverly and Sammy Despres, Sophia Balducci, Lorelei MacKilligan and Althea Pisani-Gross played well as a defensive unit.
Essex Tech 3, Hamilton-Wenham 0: Janelle Dalton, a senior outside hitter, had a half-dozen kills and 10 digs as the Hawks took a 25-22, 25-18, 25-18 triumph over their Cape Ann League rivals. Another senior, middle blocker Kaylin Potter, finished the night with seven kills.
The Generals collected 16 aces and had just four errors from the service line all evening, with sophomores Grace Harres (6 aces, 4 blocks, 1 kill, 1 dig) and Abby Norris (7 digs, 4 aces, 1 kill) playing well. Morgan Etna, a junior outside hitter, added five kills, 10 digs and two aces, while junior libero Ava Day contributed seven digs.
Swampscott 3, Georgetown 0: Senior Yanielis Pizarro finished the night with 10 kills and junior captain Lauren Paul added seven kills and three aces for the Big Blue, who swept this non-league contest 28-18, 25-10, 25-18.
GOLF
Swampscott 40, Peabody 32: The Big Blue prevailed at the Meadow led by match winners Mike Collins, Jack Smyth, Luke McGonagle, Joseph Dalelio and Sam Moscoso. Tristan Joyce picked up a win in first position for Peabody (3-8) while Mascon Clickstein and Jason Houlden also prevailed.
Danvers 61, Saugus 11: Winners for the Falcons at Cedar Glen were Bryce Clark, Connor Harvey, Tommy Fish, Tommy Surrette, Seamus Cary, Josh Henry and Cole Andrews.
Masconomet 43.8, Winthrop 28.5: Brendan Sheehan carded an even par 35 and won his match to highlight the afternoon for the Chieftains (8-3). Thomas Finn, Blake Ditchfield, Drew Nelson and Nolan Zamagni were all victorious for Masco.
Beverly 63.5, Salem 8.5: The Panthers got victories from all eight of their golfers to improve to 9-1 this fall.
Shea Christel, Maddox Dion and Aaron Babb played well for the Witches.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE TENNIS
Gordon 4, Endicott 3: In a match continued from last week when it was called due to darkness, Gordon’s Annette Kim won the third set, 6-4, to seal the rivalry match win for the Fighting Scots.
