GIRLS LACROSSE
Danvers 16, Winthrop 5: Goalkeeper Annabel Boyd turned aside 16 shots while Savannah Botthof powered the offense with five goals and two assists to go with a team-high five ground balls to power Danvers to its first win of the season.
Sophomore Sienna Goldberg finished with three goals and four ground balls for the Falcons, with Olivia Henry adding three goals of her own to go with one assist and five draw controls. The Blue-and-White also got two goals, two assists and five ground balls from Elizabeth Farrell, single goals from Emma Cross, DeAnna Figueiredo and Hannah Tersolo; and assists from Kayda Brown and Mariellen Owen (who added 5 ground balls).
Bishop Fenwick 6, Bishop Feehan 4: Four goals from Breanna Genzale and nine saves from goalie Courtney McKenzie helped lift the Crusaders to a road victory. Hannah Bettencourt (2 assists) and Molly Sullivan (assist) also scored in the Fenwick win, with Nieve Bachman and Kiley Bloom also adding solo helpers. Meghan Eastman, Olivia Watson and Cori McMeniman were all defensive stars as well.
Ipswich 10, Pentucket 5: Allie Wile had four goals and caused three turnovers to lead the unbeaten Tigers. Lyla Greenleaf added three scored and also getting into the book were Natalie Elder (2 goals, assist), Ella McCarthy (goal, 2 assists) and goalie Emma Paquette (7 saves).
Wilmington 12, Essex Tech 11: Despite five goals and an assist from Morgan Costa plus another four tallies, one assist and eight draw controls from Janelle Dalton, the Hawks were shaded in a non-league matchup. Jalyn Dos Santos added two goals for Essex Tech, which got an assist and seven draw controls from Chelsea Martinez as well as a dozen saves from goalie Frankie Roper.
BOYS LACROSSE
Ipswich 14, Pentucket 9: Vin Winter pumped home six goals with two assists and Christian Gianakakis won 80 percent of his faceoffs to give the Tigers (2-1) a Cape Ann League triumph. Finn Wright added four goals for the winners, with Luke Wile adding a goal and three assists, Spencer McDavitt one tally and two assists, and both Zane Norton and Will Gromko one goal apiece. Spencer Manning picked up one assist and goalkeeper Connor Wright made a dozen saves.
Pingree 11, Brooks 3: Finley McClintock won 13-of-16 faceoffs, giving his team repeated ball possession as the Highlanders (4-1) won their fourth straight. Henry Card paced the offense with four goals and two assists, Connor O’Neil added two of each, and Quinn Donovan also scored twice with one assist. Jake Hiltz (goal, 2 assists), Christian Renaud (goal, assist), Matt Tersolo (goal) and Nick Donovan (3 assists) were also instrumental to the offensive attack, and goalie Max Becker stopped seven shots to help nail down the win.
Essex Tech 14, Amesbury 8: Jack Hanchett scooped six ground balls and had three takeaways to earn game MVP honors as the Hawks (2-2) got back into the win column. Mason Gadbois had a big day with five goals and two assists while Nevin Maher also had seven points (4 goals, 3 assists). Timothy Tavares added a goal and a game-high five assists, while Chase Ruberti (2), Casey Collins (2), Tyler McHugh and Dom Cieslik also scored. Joe Dresser made 12 saves in net.
St. John’s Prep 12, Malden Catholic 1: Sam Pruell only had to make one save to earn the win in net while several of his teammates scored their first varsity goal as the Eagles (now 3-0) rolled in Catholic Conference play. Danny Cahill (assist) and Ryan McCarthy both potted two goals for St. John’s Prep while Luke Kelly, Josh Haarmann and Mac Crawford all had one goal and one helper. Cam McCarthy, Joe Bullard, Josh Barton, Sam Kelly and JP Sullivan added single goals in the win. Chase Kenyon was successful on 14-of-16 faceoffs and handed out one assist, and Will Quigley (3) and Thomas Randal also had assists.
Winthrop 15, Salem 3: The Witches (2-1) were held off the scoreboard in the second half and suffered their first loss of 2025. Jake Lister netted two goals for Salem Mikey Curtin one, and A.J. Alessi dished out two assists. Sophomore goalie Vincent Milano was busy, making 18 saves.
North Reading 16, Hamilton-Wenham 2: Sophomore Darren Ireland and senior captain Charlie Convey had the goals for the Generals (0-4), with Anthony Folger also having a strong showing in the faceoff circle. Goaltender Jackson Pitkin finished up with five saves as well.
Bishop Feehan 21, Bishop Fenwick 2: Senior captain Nathaniel Ricciuti scored his 100th career goal in the Crusaders’ setback. Jase Mansi also connected for Fenwick (now 0-4).
BASEBALL
St. John’s Prep 11, Malden Catholic 1: Will Shaheen (2-for-4, 3 RBI) and Jack DiFilippo (2-for-3, 3 RBI) both hit home runs and senior Vasili Scangas (2-for-4, 3 RBI) added a triple as the Eagles (1-1) won their Catholic Conference opener at home. Senior Rowan Cormier struck out a career-high 10 in 5 1/3 innings and St. John’s had 14 total hits with James Willett, Dylan Gaudet and Ty Spear all getting two base knocks.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
St. John’s Prep 3, Xaverian 0: The Eagles swept up their arch rivals, 25-15, 25-10, 25-13, as Michael Wagner had 11 aces, Jayden Pelletier and Matt Nazzaro supplied 10 kills each and Graham Pasersky handed out 16 assists.
GIRLS TENNIS
Hamilton-Wenham 5, Amesbury 0: The defending state champs won all five matches in straight sets behind Naomi Provost (6-0, 6-0), Emily McIntosh (6-4, 6-4), freshman Charlotte Ireland for her first career win (6-4, 6-1), Olivia Romans/Evelyn Esdaile (6-1, 6-1) and Gabriella Jewett/Sofie Greene (6-1, 6-2).
SOFTBALL
Haverhill 16, Masconomet 4: Angie Vecchio had an RBI double, Ally Kelter drove home a run and Charlotte Leiss had two of her team’s six hits as the Chieftains (0-4) tied it 4-4 in the fifth. Haverhill took advantage of five errors and scored 11 times in the bottom of the fifth and sixth to win.
MEN’S COLLEGE GOLF
Endicott wins Roger Williams Invitational: Earning its third tournament of the season, the Gulls took the top three individual spots to capture the two-day Roger Williams Invitational with a team score of 593 (plus-25). That was 19 strokes better than second place Salem State (612, plus-44).
Will Pierce won medalist honors with a two-day score of 142, which was even par. Teammates Brady Burke (148) and Myles O’Quinn (149) were second and third for Endicott, respectively. h conditions on the course.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Salem State splits with St. Joseph’s: Following a 4-2 setback in the day’s first contest, the Vikings earned a split of their doubleheader by taking a 13-9 decision in the nightcap. Terry Perryman went 3-for-4 with three RBI and scored twice in the victory (now 11-9) while also earning the victory on the mound, throwing 5 2/3 innings in relief. Alanna Carbonneau had two hits and an RBI for Salem State, which rallied from an early five-run deficit.
