GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Beverly 3, Masconomet 2: Having dropped the first two sets, the Panthers came roaring back behind Tori Mulumba’s 11 kills and 10 more from Julia Marks to capture a dramatic 23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15, 15-13 home triumph. Mara Gambale also had a great night for the Orange-and-Black, finishing with 17 digs, while Lidia Miedema showed great leadership and energy throughout the match.
Senior Maura Downing led the Chieftains in kills with seven while Sophia Balducci lead Masconomet defensively with 11 total digs.
Marblehead 3, Danvers 0: Sienna Lynch led Danvers with three kills, a block and a dig while Hannah Tersolo added two aces, three assists and three digs. Hadley Brown (6 digs), Lauren Garofalo (8 digs, 2 assists, 1 kill, 1 ace) and Tess Crowley (4 digs, 1 ace, 1 kill) were others who played well for the Blue-and-White.
GIRLS SOCCER
Peabody 7, Saugus 0: Gabby Gosselin had goal with two assists and Avery Bettencourt scored with one helper to deliver head coach Katrina Silva her first win in charge of the Tanners (1-2-1). Also scoring were Grace Sylvester, Brielle Broughton, Sophia Dattoli, Ayanna Cirame and Sophia Galbiati. Liv Ball also posted her first shutout of the season.
Beverly 6, Salem 0: Olivia Anketell scored twice and Abby Sidmore and Genevieve Bilotti controlled the midfield with two assists each as the Panthers improved to 3-0. Mackenzie Pouliot, Jaydin Simpson, Addie Abell, and Violet Acheson all had a goal and Clara Kostro remained unscored upon this season in net.
Bishop Fenwick 7, Arlington Catholic 1: Maeve O’Donnell had a pair of goals and Reese Spurchise and Schylar Kroon had one each in an opening day win for the Crusaders (1-0).
Danvers 9, Winthrop 1: Junior Mia St. Pierre and sophomore Rylee Sullivan both had hat tricks and Danvers remained unbeaten (1-0-1) at home. Senior captain Emma Sutherland added two goals and two assists with junior captain Maddie Hanas also scoring. Junior Kaitlyn Rosa had a strong game for the Falcons on attack picking up two assists and sophomores Ella Cangiano and Maggie Lamar also assisting.
Masconomet 6, Gloucester 0: A total of 11 players had a point for the unbeaten Chieftains (3-0) with Gigi Wayland, Kiki Blosser and Zoe Chen all netting their first varsity goals. Maddie Orciuch, Ella Cammarata, Kaia Reardon also found the back of the net with assists earned by Sophie Nelson, Maggie Blosser, Lily Blosser, Ada Paglierani and Brooke Hogan.
BOYS SOCCER
Beverly 4, Salem 0: Senior Bailey Roy scored his first varsity goal, Adam Porcello had the shutout, and the Panthers improved to 2-1. Seniors Connor Sullivan and Brandon Rodkey also scored, as did sophomore Wilder de Leon, who also added a pair of assists. Sophomore Max Fofack, senior Will Gavenas and midfielder Jake Caron were other Beverly stars on this day.
Salem saw captains Nile McManus and Henry Beauparlant both have several chances to score, while 10th graders Ilan Marmo and Lachlan Brierley also played well in the loss.
Peabody 4, Saugus 1: Three first-half tallies sent the Tanners (1-2) to their first win of the season. Jason Decost powered the offense with two goals and one assist, with Jon Ward and Thad Broughton adding one goal each. Defensively, Jayden Lopez (assist), Broughton and Ethan Hartford all excelled.
Masconomet 6, Gloucester 2: Matteo Steffanelli scored twice and assisted on two others while Luke Fiedler also bagged a pair of goals and added one helper as the Chieftains improved to 2-0. Lincoln Sandler and Norman James added solo goals, Sam Costa dished out three assists, and Colin Sutton, Kenny McCann and Nick Wedge all played well in the back end for Masconomet.
Bishop Fenwick 5, Arlington Catholic 0: The Crusaders had no trouble with the Cougars thanks to three points nights by Edwin Flores (two goals, assist) and Daniel Martin (goal, two assists). Hector Jimenez and Elias Rodriguez also scored.
Winthrop 7, Danvers 0: The Falcons fell to 0-2.
GOLF
Beverly 39.5, Peabody 22.5: Tyler Chin-Aleong (7-2), Kyle Gambale (6-3), captain Anthony Barror (5.5-3.5), Harrison Simeone (6.3) and Jackson O’Hare (5.5-3.5) picked up the victories for the Panthers (3-1) at Wenham Country Club over their Northeastern Conference rivals.
Danvers (now 3-5) received wins from Wes Maylor (7-2) and Lucas Silva (6.5-2.5).
Saugus 39, Salem 33: Three golfers picked up victories for Salem (now 1-3) Monday at Olde Salem Greens: Margaret O’Sullivan (7-2), Thatcher Race (5.5-3.5)and Nate Leonard (7.5-1.5).
St. John’s Shrewsbury 222, St. John’s Prep 225: The Eagles fell to 3-2 on the season despite a strong round of 35 from junior LB Manning at Wollaston Country Club. Seniors Zach Enners (36), AJ Bodnar (37) and Seamus O’Holleran (38) added fine scores for St. John’s Prep, as did freshman Luke Flynn (39) and senior Cullen Pasterick (40).
FIELD HOCKEY
Bishop Fenwick 9, Malden 0: Senior captain Alex Kohalmi finished with a hat trick while freshman Claire Bachman had her first varsity goal as the Crusaders (3-1) demolished their hosts. Seniors Neive Bachman and Kaylee Sjursen, plus juniors Sophia Cooke, Bella McCormack, and Shayna Rowen, also found the back of the net. Cooke added two assists, Bachman and Caroline O’Hare had one helper each, and Sarah Bannister earned the shutout in net.
