GIRLS LACROSSE
Ipswich 15, Hamilton-Wenham 8: Faith Hauenstein and Jade Wilcox each caused three turnovers and the Tigers put the defensive clamps on the high-scoring Generals to remain unbeaten. Allie Wile led the Ipswich offense with five goals, Ella McCarthy scored four with two assists, Lucy Winthrop had two with two assists, Taryn Desmond scored and had three assists and Jayne Krause netted two. Goalie Emma Paquette made six saves and Asuka Keough, Avery Brown and Maddie Hanson also shined on D.
Evie Bernard (five draw controls), Jane Boardman and Grace Glidden all scored twice for H-W (4-2).
Beverly 13, Swampscott 12 (2 OT): Freshman Ashley Wallace scored with 1:20 left in the second overtime and Maddie Reynolds made some incredible saves to keep Beverly alive in the sudden death overtimes. She finished with 16 and now has a BHS career record of 436 and the Panthers held Swampscott to just one goal in the second half and OT after trailing 11-5. Sasha Miller led Beverly with four goals, Joselyn Silva scored three with two assists and Madeline Leblanc notched a pair.
Cecilia Tripp scored six times for Swampscott (7-1) and Avery Laundry had five with two assists. Lilah Caplan played well in net with 10 saves, Chloe Puzzo scored a goal with three assists and Victoria Pierro handed out three helpers.
Peabody 13, Gloucester 1: Brooke Lomasney (four assists), Ally Bettencourt, Ari Alvarado and Alexia Morris all had two goals to lead a balanced effort by the Tanners (4-2). Madi Barrett, Maia Davis, Leah Bresnahan and Briana Symonds also buried markers for the winners.
BOYS LACROSSE
Peabody 8, Gloucester 6: Jayden Kritikos (2 goals, 2 assists) was one of three Tanners who scored twice as his team came home from Cape Ann with a victory. Attackman Antonio Anzalone and Joe Vaz also ripped the nets twice for Peabody (now 3-3), with Derek Collins (assist) and Steven Brown also scoring. Tyson Higgins added an assist of his own to go with a game-high nine ground balls, and goaltender Aidan Haight came up with 11 big stops.
Masconomet 17, Salem 3: Colin Driscoll and Tony Giacchino each had three goals and two assists while Will Carey (2 goals, 2 assists) won 14-of-18 faceoffs to lead the Chieftains (5-2). Brothers Ben Miga (3 goals, assists) and John Miga (4 assists) also had big days, with Colten Russo (2 goals, assist), Mason Harris (goal, assist), Jax Parker (goal, assist), Niko Emmanuel (goal), Chris Young (goal), Tyler Guaranga (assist) and Alex Russo (assist) adding points of their own. Michael Kenny earned his first win, stopping a dozen shots in net.
Mikey Curtin scored twice while Jake Lister had the other goal plus an assist for Salem (3-5). AJ Alessi assisted on the other two goals while netminder Vince Milano had 11 saves.
Ipswich 11, Hamilton-Wenham 3: Some unsettled fast break goals in the third quarter helped open things for Ipswich (now 5-2), with got a game high four goals and four assists from Luke Wile, who also played some serious keep away with the ball in the final stanza. Vin Winter added three goals, LSM Louie Harrington two and Sam Pinsky and Gavin Pulsfier one each. Will Gromko and Travis Wilson each one assist each and Connor Wright (10 saves) earned another win in net.
The Generals (0-7) saw Jackson Pitkin finished with 10 saves, Charlie Convey, Billy Brown and Devin Ireland all score once, and Zach Sachsel pick up one assist.
Wakefield 11, Marblehead 9: Four goals and an assist from Will Sullivan plus three more tallies from Reece Moore weren’t enough to propel the Magicians (3-3) to victory. James Achterhof and Tyler Forbes also found the back of the net for Marblehead, with Sean Dolan grabbing an assist and goalie Colin Maniaci finishing with 11 saves.
SOFTBALL
Danvers 16, Winthrop 0: Junior Addi McCarty homered and drove in three runs and Danvers (4-3) put away the Vikings quickly. Junior Lila Flynn had three hits with five RBI while Kyla Moroney tripled and scored four times while tossing three 1-hit, shutout innings. Brooke Wilichoski chipped in two his and Skylar Coakley threw two no-hit innings and whiffed three.
Beverly 14, Swampscott 7: Jasmine Feliciano belted two home runs and finished the game with three hits and four RBI while Elsa Reulet (3-for-5) also put one out of the park and had two RBI. Meredith Johnston had a 4-for-4 showing with two RBI and Lidia Miedema struck out nine in five strong innings for the Panthers (4-1).
Maddie Lilley had two hits and three RBI for the Big Blue (4-4) and Cece O’Connor finished the game with three hits including a double.
Gloucester 13, Peabody 12: JJ Emerson had six RBI on three hits but the Tanners (4-4) couldn’t hold a 12-11 lead going into the seventh. Freshman Olivia Gaurino homered and had three runs with three RBI while Jess Steed (3 runs) and Jazzy Iraola (RBI) also had two hits each. It was a seesaw battle with five lead changes as Peabody came from four runs down to grab the lead in the sixth.
Amesbury 10, Hamilton-Wenham 7: The Generals (4-4) came alive with four in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t get all the way back against the Red Hawks. Annie Soleimani went 3-for-4 to key the H-W offense with Sydney Smith, Viola Fazio and Lilly Guittarr all recording a hit and an RBI.
BASEBALL
St. John’s Prep 8, Haverhill 0: Braeden Hurley (4 2/3 innings, 5 strikeouts), Jack DiFilippo and Joe Eberhart combined for St. Johns’ first shutout of the season. Vasili Scangas (2 BRI) and Jesse Swartz both hit triples for the Eagles (3-3) while Ty Spear doubled and scored twice, Dylan Gaudet contributed two hits and ten players recorded at least one base hit.
Hamilton-Wenham 7, Newburyport 2: Picking up where the game was suspended due to rain last week, the Generals (6-0) scored six times to rally and remain undefeated. Galen Clark Goldfeld had three RBI while Gian Gamelli had two hits and scored twice, Chase Cann had two key hits and Owen Waddell had two hits and threw all 2 1/3 innings played Monday without allowing a hit and striking out five.
Swampscott 11, Stoneham 0: Spencer Reames struck out seven and combined with Nate Lee on the shutout as the Big Blue improved to 5-3 overall. Caden Ross had four hits, two swipes, a run and an RBI while Jami Ford clubbed two deep triples. First baseman Dylan DiFilippo had three hits and two RBI, Chase Groothuis drove home two and Adam Sparacio scored three times.
Gloucester 4, Beverly 3: The Fisherman scored three in the sixth to tie the game and then walked off on a 2-out RBI single in the seventh. Charlie Salerno drove in a pair to help Beverly (3-3) seize a 3-0 lead while Callan McCay scored twice and swiped two bags, Danny Pierce had a hit with an RBI and Graham Gavin struck out 11 in 5 1/3 innings of work.
Melrose 9, Peabody 1: The Tanners (4-2) saw their four game win streak snapped when they conceded six runs with two outs in the second inning. Peabody managed just five hits and couldn’t mount a comeback. Ethan Waybret (RBI), Luke Maglione, Jayden Cunningham and Noah and Jake Crocker recorded the hits.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Endicott 5, Johnson & Wales 0: John Connolly (five innings, four strikeouts) combined with Max Jarvie, Jack Harmony and Kyan Bagshawn on a 3-hit shutout and the No. 3 Gulls (26-3) won their 18th consecutive game. Cade Bernardo went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Robbie Wladkowski and AJ Hamm also had two hit afternoons.
Salem State sweeps: The Vikings exploded for 34 runs over two games, beating Framingham State in a wild 19-16 game and then in a 15-2 romp. SSU (12-14) had 32 hits between the two games with Connor Dolan collecting six of those. Ethan Stepputtis had five hits, eight RBI and crossed the plate six times in a huge day and Lucas Rincon also had six RBI. In the 15-2 bout, Nolan Currier struck out 10 batters in a complete game gem.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Vikings drop two: Salem State fell to Framingham State, 9-8 and 11-8, to dip to 15-15 on the year. Danvers’ Brooke Grassia and Peabody’s Makayla Rooney both hit safely and had RBI in both games for FSU. Salem State was led by Bella Perrotti’s four total RBI.
